Expect a 40-Hour Campaign for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Initially, each installment of Assassin’s Creed featured standalone stories. However, over time, the series has evolved into vast open worlds brimming with content that can keep players occupied for hundreds of gameplay hours.

Upon the debut of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, gamers can anticipate familiar elements, while creative director Jonathan Dumont provides an approximate timeframe for completing the main storyline to enthusiastic players.

How Long Will It Take to Finish AC Shadows?

In a recent chat with @Genki_JPN, Dumont shared that finishing the primary storyline of the game could require around 30 to 40 hours. For those who prefer to explore every detail, he estimates that over 80 hours would be needed.

During the interview, it was disclosed that Dumont indicated a potential development of New Game+ for Shadows, and furthermore, they may incorporate additional game modes in response to player suggestions.

Shadows offers a vast, immersive ‘living’ open world, providing numerous opportunities for gamers to become engrossed within its depths. This could be achieved through side missions or mini-games, which reward players with ‘insight points,’ these points uncovering additional elements of the game for the player to discover.

How Long Did It Take to Finish Previous AC Games?

It’s quite astonishing to witness the progress made in the Assassin’s Creed series, considering that the main campaign of the latest games can last anywhere between 30-40 hours. Remarkably, even the original game required around 30 hours for a thorough playthrough by completionists.

While more contemporary titles like Odyssey might take around 144 hours for a thorough playthrough (for those aiming for completeness), Shadows is noticeably shorter. In fact, Origins took approximately 52 hours to explore the additional content, but a full completion would demand an extra 85 hours.

Previously released before Shadows, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, featured a primary storyline spanning approximately 61 hours. Completing all aspects of the game could take up to 148 hours.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but appreciate the thoughtfulness behind Ubisoft’s decision to revisit compact storylines with Assassin’s Creed Mirage. With the increasing time investment required by many games these days, a shorter campaign like this one seems like a breath of fresh air.

What to Expect with Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In terms of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it appears Ubisoft drew inspiration from Ghost of Tsushima and crafted their unique take on the series. This installment offers players a chance to command two characters: the mythical black samurai Yasuke and an original character named Naoe, who shares connections with the Brotherhood.

In comparison, Naoe appears to embody the role of a more conventional assassin, mastering stealthy maneuvers like sneaking and wall-climbing, along with stealth kills. On the other hand, Yasuke seems destined to take on a more physical or combat-oriented character, capable of engaging multiple adversaries directly, though he may not possess Naoe’s agility when it comes to scaling structures.

In contrast to recent Assassin’s Creed releases adhering to established patterns, Shadows aims to inject novelty by incentivizing players for delving into the game world. Instead of merely guiding players to locations on the map as previous games have done, Shadows intends to maintain player curiosity and make knowledge a valuable asset that enhances overall gameplay experience.

Keep an eye out for the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, scheduled for March 20. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
