On March 3, 2025, a poll was held to find out which Oscar-nominated Hindi film had the most profound emotional impact on its viewers. Readers were given five choices: Lagaan, Anuja, Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and The White Tiger.

For a span of two days, the voting process took place. Based on the collected votes, it was revealed that Lagaan moved fans the most, amassing an impressive 70% of the total votes. Mother India came in second place with 20%, while Salaam Bombay received 10% of the votes.

The movie “Lagaan,” released in 2001, falls under the genre of sports dramas. Aamir Khan played the main character. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, it tells the story of a village’s residents who managed to outplay the British at cricket and thus avoid paying taxes. The film garnered widespread praise for its compelling narrative, acting talent, and music. Notably, “Lagaan” was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best International Feature Film.

At this year’s Oscars ceremony, Anuja was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film, but she didn’t win. Instead, the award went to the Dutch film “I’m Not a Robot.

In another category of awards, Sean Baker’s film “Anora” won five distinctions. Mikey Madison was honored as Best Actress due to her remarkable acting in this movie.
