‘Ready or Not’ Sequel Adds MCU Star Kathryn Newton

One of the standout horror comedies from recent years, “Ready or Not,” garnered widespread acclaim when it hit theaters in 2019. Ever since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for news about a possible sequel, “Ready or Not 2.” However, the development process has been slow, despite the original film’s success. Made on a budget of $6 million, it managed to gross an impressive $58 million worldwide, which was quite a victory for such a small-scale production. Given these figures, it’s no surprise that a sequel was eventually given the go-ahead. Now, after years of anticipation, progress is finally being made, and another promising horror talent has been brought on board to star alongside Samara Weaving in the new “Ready or Not” installment.

According to Deadline, actress Kathryn Newton has signed up for the cast of the upcoming sequel to “Ready or Not.” Sam Neill, who was the lead in the original film, will also reappear in this new project. Newton isn’t new to this genre, as she worked with Radio Silence previously on the 2024 movie “Abigail.” The details of the sequel’s plot are under wraps, but fans can look forward to the same talented creators behind “Ready or Not” for the upcoming film. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will co-direct once more, based on a screenplay by original writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy.

Following her harrowing experience in a survival game, Weaving is back, this time as the ex-bride, and she won’t be on her own this go-around. Newton, known for her roles in horror comedies such as “Lisa Frankenstein” and “Freaky,” as well as supporting parts in popular franchises like “Detective Pikachu” and the controversial “Ant-Man” sequel, is set to return. In addition to reprising her role from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Cassie Lang in an upcoming movie, possibly in “Avengers: Doomsday,” Newton continues to be a prominent figure in the horror genre. The upcoming film “Ready or Not 2” not only introduces a promising new talent, but one who could pair excellently with Weaving, another scream queen in the genre.

‘Ready or Not’ Star Is “All In” for Sequel

Following the release of “Ready or Not” in 2019, several events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, industry-wide strikes in 2023, and other projects temporarily paused work on a sequel. Yet, even before it was officially given the go-ahead, the movie’s main cast had already shown eagerness to reprise their roles. In fact, Samara Weaving had previously voiced her desire to return for a sequel, well before the announcement was made.

I’m fully committed, it seems that way for everyone else too, although I can’t be completely sure. To put it another way, we’re deeply involved in this, not literally like exchanging blood through a traditional handshake, but symbolically close, as we’ve shaken hands and shared the symbolic gesture of spitting.

Intriguingly, since the first movie left only one character alive, speculations about a Ready or Not follow-up are rife. If it’s not the Le Domas family, maybe Grace’s next groom is unluckily linked to another cult of Satan worshipers. With Kathryn Newton joining the primary cast, there’s a possibility that another bride could be drawn into an identical ritual, one which Grace swears to disrupt. No matter the plot twists, fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming sequel with bated breath.
