‘The Recruit’ Canceled at Netflix After 2 Seasons

The Recruit won’t be returning to Netflix for a third season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was announced on Thursday that the espionage series starring Noah Centineo has been terminated following its second season.

The Follower trailed Owen Hendricks (Centineo), a legal officer for the CIA, as he found himself entangled in significant global disputes with hazardous entities, following an informant attempting to disclose their covert alliance to the agency.

Colton Dunn, the actor known for his role as Lester Kitchens, expressed disappointment over the show’s cancellation on Twitter. He wrote, “The Recruit has been axed, folks. Such a letdown. I’ll be sharing some behind-the-scenes photos and fun memories on Instagram, but I wanted you to hear it directly from me. Thanks for tuning in. I’m ready for new projects! Hire me for your TV show script!

In the second season, which aired at the start of the year, Hendricks found herself back in the thick of things, but this time the setting was Seoul, South Korea. The ensemble cast included Dunn, Aarti Mann, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Fivel Stewart, Angel Parker, Kaylah Zander and Teo Yoo.

Last month, Centineo shared with THR his feelings about filming season two. “Getting together with the cast on a personal level was such a joy,” he expressed then. “They’re fantastic individuals. We get along well, we care for each other, and we spend time together off set regularly. This camaraderie really fueled the energy for the second season.

He went on to say, “The pace of the season is swift. It’s filled with excitement, and Teo Yoo, who portrays Jang Kyun Kim, significantly enhances the series. Performing these scenes was a truly satisfying experience, and Korea is exceptional. It brings such an enchanting depth to the show, introducing fresh hues and it’s a lively city, and this vitality shines through in the second season.

Following the release of its second season, “The Recruit” found itself among Netflix’s most popular TV series. However, it wasn’t immediately obvious why the show was canceled. Renewals often depend on a variety of factors such as creative vision, how well the program appeals to its target audience, and economic considerations.
