Three Shocking Deaths and a Jaw-Dropping Cliffhanger in Reacher Season 3 Episode 5!

Warning: Spoilers for Reacher Season 3, Episode 5.

Following the intense episode from last week, it was comforting to tune into an installment that’s typical of Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher. Although there were a couple of tragic and unexpected deaths this time around, these characters didn’t have as much emotional impact on viewers or Reacher (Alan Ritchson) as Dominique Kohl did in Episode 4. However, the demise of certain characters in this week’s episode had significant repercussions for Reacher and his partnership with Agent Duffy (Sonya Cassidy).

In the previous episode’s nail-biting conclusion, Duffy and Agent Villanueva (Roberto Montesinos) were moments away from being exposed and meeting their demise. Tracing Angel Doll’s laptop to their position, McCabe’s men started firing. Fortunately, Reacher and Agent Eliot (Daniel David Stewart) alerted them just in the knick of time, allowing them to flee and discard the laptop in the process. However, Duffy inadvertently left her badge behind without noticing. Fret not, as Reacher retrieved it before anyone else could get their hands on it – a predictable turn of events, wouldn’t you agree?

Now, with only three more episodes to go, all the pieces are beginning to fall into place rather quickly. With that, simple mistakes have dire consequences. Reacher and Duffy’s initial assumptions turn out to be incorrect, and the boss at the top will finally reveal himself. What else could possibly go wrong?

Eliot Makes a Fatal Rookie Mistake

And the Bodyguard Is Able to Escape

While Duffy and Villanueva are intensely searching for Teresa (Storm Steenson), Eliot is once more tasked with guarding a bodyguard they’ve held captive for several days. However, this hostage has grown increasingly irritating, and he successfully persuades Eliot to let him smoke. Unfortunately, this was a ruse as the moment Eliot attempts to light the cigarette, the bodyguard swiftly spits hydrogen peroxide at him. Overpowered by the burning sensation, Eliot is quickly incapacitated, giving the bodyguard the perfect opportunity for an attack.

Seizing his chance, the bodyguard brutally assaults Eliot and manages to kill him before making a swift escape from the cabin just as Duffy returns.

Despite the lack of a warning call, if Beck (Anthony Michael Hall) or McCabe, the bodyguard, don’t have their cell phones, they’ll have to drive straight to Beck’s house. Reacher cleverly plans to intercept the man before anyone else does. Duffy shuts off power not just to the house but also half the town, creating an ideal scenario for Reacher to leave the house. Subsequently, he and Villanueva orchestrate a road accident that compels the bodyguard out of his vehicle, leading almost instantly to his death. In other words, they stage an incident that forces the bodyguard off the road, resulting in his demise. Problem resolved.

Beck and McCabe Are Running Guns, Not Drugs

And ATF Is Onto Them

Due to the power failure and perceived safety issue at Beck’s residence, McCabe instructs a search of everyone’s room. During this search, they uncover that the housemaid Annette (Caitlin McNerney) is secretly working as an ATF informant. They stumble upon a phone she was using to communicate with ATF agents, yet fail to spot Reacher’s DEA badge that he had hidden within his pillowcase. It seems the storyline requires Reacher’s disguise to stay undiscovered for a while longer…

Annette is instantly murdered, and Reacher is forced to get rid of her corpse, a chore he performs sorrowfully. It soon becomes clear to him and Duffy that Beck and McCabe weren’t dealing drugs, but rather trafficking weapons. The ATF has been monitoring them for quite some time now. This revelation raises questions about whether there might be another undercover agent within McCabe’s organization, which would certainly add an intriguing twist. With all the pieces seemingly out in the open, Reacher and Duffy are aware of what awaits them. For now, this is what we’re led to understand.

Reacher Will Finally Come Face to Face with McCabe

With everything now in place, McCabe invites everyone, considering the current events, to the rug warehouse. So, Reacher and Beck are called upon. As usual, no additional information is shared – there seems to be a requirement for a hint of danger each episode. Notably, Reacher anticipates his first encounter with McCabe, suspecting him to be Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee). Yet, I have a feeling the events won’t proceed as we expect based on what we know so far.

Although Reacher could have revealed the antagonist at the start of this season, it’s clear they still hold secrets in store. This is likely one of them. Until the series definitively confirms that McCabe and Quinn are indeed one and the same, I remain unconvinced.

Unfortunately, we must bide our time until Episode 6 to get the answer, as the credits began rolling precisely when Reacher was about to confront McCabe. Consequently, we’re all left anxiously waiting for that episode to arrive. Here’s hoping the next few days pass quickly!

Reacher Season 3 is currently streaming on Prime Video. New episodes premiere every Thursday.
