As a movie critic, I recently delved into the season finale of the captivating reality show, “The Flip Off,” which aired on March 5. While I won’t reveal who emerged victorious in the house-flipping competition (to maintain the suspense for those yet to watch), I can assure you that the entire six-episode season is now streaming exclusively for Max subscribers. Don’t miss out on this thrilling journey!
Fans who follow HGTV have known Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack for over ten years, so when we heard that The Flip Off would be part of the 2025 TV lineup, our initial curiosity was centered around the unusual concept of having the former partners compete against each other. However, we wondered about Heather Rae El Moussa’s thoughts on this arrangement. The longtime star of Selling Sunset openly discussed her experience working with the contentious exes and the dynamics of their combined family.
Initially, “The Flip Off” wasn’t planned as a three-way contest. Tarek and Heather El Moussa were supposed to compete against Christina and Josh Hall. However, things took an unexpected turn when the Halls filed for divorce, leading to the decision to continue production without Josh. This left Heather to handle the ex-couples alone, a situation she discussed frankly with her friends during the March 5 finale “The Final Flip Off”. She shared her feelings about this unique challenge, stating:
They seem to have a constant rivalry between themselves. Their interactions often resemble those of siblings who quarrel. I’ve found myself frequently stepping in to resolve disagreements. Tarek would often urge them to get along, claiming he knew them well and they’d eventually find common ground, which turned out to be true. However, there were significant conflicts between the two when I first met them, as they appeared to despise each other. Navigating my entry into their relationship was a delicate process.
It appears that the rivalry between Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack, often displayed when cameras are present, continues off-screen as well. What’s amusing is that the real estate investor seemed to predict that Heather Rae would get along with his ex. Before the show started, they emphasized their striking similarity in appearance, and this season on The Flip Off, we can see that their design aesthetics are strikingly alike.
As a movie buff putting myself in Heather El Moussa’s shoes, I’d say it wasn’t simple being caught in their disputes, but I gotta give it up to Christina Haack for making me feel genuinely welcomed into the co-parenting team when I started dating Tarek in 2019. Simply put, she’s earned my respect.
What truly impresses me about her is her willingness to allow me to become a stepmother – this means a lot to me, since it can be quite challenging for a mother to trust another woman with raising her children.
In a different phrasing: The original stars of “Flip or Flop” have two children in common – Taylor, aged 14, and Brayden, who is 9 years old. Tarek and Heather also have a 2-year-old named Tristan. Additionally, Christina Haack has a 5-year-old son named Hudson with her second husband, Ant Anstead.
Beyond sharing the role of step-parents for their respective kids, Heather Rae El Moussa shared that she and Christina Haack have found common ground in working together against Tarek. This unity was evident towards the end of The Flip Off.
It’s amusing how, whenever she teases Tarek, it often leads to me doing the same. We seem to enjoy this dynamic. Neither of us would pick on Christina, and neither does she bother me, but we both end up focusing our attention on him instead.
It was touching to witness the El Moussas rallying behind Christina Haack during her divorce from Josh Hall, and it’s wonderful that their blended family has managed not just to coexist, but also collaborate. That certainly is an intriguing predicament for Heather, and we’ll see if future contests might arise between her husband and his former spouse.
For now, feel free to watch Tarek and Heather without Christina on “Flip or Flop” (The Flipping El Moussas), as fresh episodes are broadcast every Friday evening on HGTV, with the option to stream them the following day on Max.
