It’s known that the team at Naughty Dog is presently focused on their upcoming project, titled “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet“. There were reports indicating that they had to abandon the multiplayer version of “The Last of Us” to make this new game possible.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly awaiting The Last of Us Part III, but lately, it seems like it might take a while. Game director Neil Druckmann has dropped some intriguing hints suggesting that the game might not be in our immediate future after all.
No The Last of Us Part III?
During a conversation with Variety, Druckmann was inquired about the possibility of another game. He responded, “I’ve been anticipating this question… The only thing I can say is, it might be wise not to expect more from The Last of Us. This could very well be the end.
Druckmann doesn’t elaborate on the reasons behind his decision, but it’s clear to those who are attentive that Ellie’s tale has further chapters – a fact even admitted by Druckmann himself.
‘There’s Probably One More Chapter to This Story’
Following the launch of “The Last of Us Part II”, Druckmann has been forthcoming about expanding Ellie’s narrative. In the recently released documentary titled “Grounded II“, Druckmann discusses this further.
Although I don’t have a traditional narrative, I do possess an intriguing idea that rivals both 1 and 2 in excitement. This concept stands independently, yet it shares a common thread among all three parts. Therefore, it seems as if there might be one more installment to this unique tale.
The narrative seems to have quite a few unresolved aspects as Abby and Lev embark on their mission to encounter the Fireflies. There’s plenty of scope for delving into what they’ve been doing lately and their strategies for saving the world.
In relation to the significant issue at hand, let’s not forget about Ellie’s unique resistance to the Cordyceps fungus, a factor that greatly contributed to her significance in the initial game. This aspect seemed less prominent in Part II. For Part III, perhaps it’s time for Ellie to take charge and determine how she can utilize this immunity to aid humanity’s survival.
There’s Still the Series

While Druckmann may not be planning a third game, there’s a chance that Ellie and Abby’s stories could find resolution in the TV series, which is slated for a four-season run. It’s anticipated that The Last of Us Part II’s narrative will reach its conclusion by Season 3.
Perhaps Season 4 might delve into what Druckmann initially intended for the third game, though it’s unfortunate if it only serves as a series extension rather than a full-fledged game that offers deeper engagement with the narrative.
I’m hoping that Druckmann is merely joking around. Keep an eye out for the anticipated release of The Last of Us Season 2, slated for April on Max.
