The movie adaptation of “It Ends With Us” hit theaters last year, but by the end of 2024, it has morphed into a centerpiece of a significant legal drama, particularly between lead actress Blake Lively and director/co-star Justin Baldoni. Yesterday, there was news that Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit against The New York Times might be dismissed. Today, there’s an update regarding the text messages crucial to the Lively-Baldoni lawsuit. More specifically, concerns have been raised about whether texts from prominent celebrities like Hugh Jackman and Taylor Swift could potentially be involved in the trial proceedings.
According to The New York Post, Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds are seeking confidentiality for their text messages during an upcoming legal case with Justin Baldoni. They aim to have additional privacy measures implemented before revealing conversations they held about Blake’s role on “It Ends With Us” with notable individuals. Attorney Meryl Conant Governski didn’t disclose any specific names but discussed this development at a court hearing in Manhattan federal court.
Moreover, it’s mentioned that Jackman and Swift aren’t the only celebrities who are friends with Gigi Hadid and Emily Blunt & John Krasinski, as well as Lively and Reynolds. Governski points out that these connections have a significant public relations worth, whether they’re used in this particular context or not. In his words:
There’s a high risk that sensitive information from casual talks with influential people who aren’t connected to the case could end up in the wrong places, causing irreversible damage. These individuals might choose to disclose the info because the publicity gain outweighs the obligation to adhere to court orders.

Initially, Sony was only expected to fund and distribute the film titled ‘Ends With Us’. However, it turned out that Sony found itself in the middle of a dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
The plan was for Sony just to finance and show the movie ‘Ends With Us’, but they ended up having to mediate a disagreement between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
In a candid revelation, it was shared that the crew member noticed an evident discomfort (or unease) on set between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
The lawyer, Governski, has asked the court to classify these documents as “Lawyer’s Confidential” and to provide details about the parties’ mental health and safety measures they’ve implemented due to their dispute. According to Blake Lively’s attorney, her co-defendants are individuals whose livelihood depends on supplying information to media outlets and content producers. However, Justin Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has deemed these proposed protective measures as “uncalled for,” arguing that it was inappropriate to even suggest that they would disregard a court order.
It’s uncertain at this point if the protective order will proceed as planned, but Freedman contends that the proposed plan unfairly singles out “celebrities” and industry influencers, treating them differently from ordinary people. He suggests that the existing “template” protective order could suffice by keeping text messages confidential. This latest twist adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal saga that has been unfolding for several months.
The controversy began when Blake Lively accused Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment during their work on “It Ends With Us“. After Lively filed her lawsuit, Baldoni retaliated with a countersuit seeking $400 million. This legal dispute has since drawn much attention, even capturing the interest of Lorne Michaels from Saturday Night Live. We’ll keep you updated on any significant developments as they unfold.
