After completing the primary narrative in Monster Hunter Worlds, the true essence of the game unfolds. At this point, your Hunter Rank is fully accessible, allowing you to advance it at your own pace – but be prepared for numerous hunts and side missions ahead if you wish to elevate it further.
Hunting can directly elevate your Hunter Rank, but side missions offer more than just hunting or slaying a monster. They provide additional XP upon completion and submission to an NPC. Rex is one such NPC who offers beneficial side quests; here’s where you can locate him and the times he appears.
Side missions not only let you hunt monsters, but also reward you with extra experience when completed and handed in to an NPC called Rex. Here’s how to find him and the times he shows up.
Where To Find Rex In Monster Hunter Wilds
In the tranquil region of Suja, Peaks of Accord, you’ll discover Rex comfortably settled near your tent. This area will be accessible once you’ve progressed significantly through the main game, typically after many events in Wyveria and as you approach the final monster within the game. On your initial visit here, Rex won’t be present, as this location becomes available only upon completion of the base game.
Venturing to Suja indicates that roughly an hour or two remains in the game, following which the Guild Master will depart for the Forbidden Lands to aid your team with their investigation. Upon this journey, Rex will become one of the armored guards who accompany him, and he’ll remain in Suja after escorting the Guild Master there. You can locate Rex on the left side of your tent in Suja; it’s marked on the map, and when you quickly teleport here, you’ll arrive right next to his position.
Rex’s Quest (As Gatekeeper)
Similar to numerous late-game quests, the Gatekeeper mission primarily involves battling monsters within the Wounded Hollow, a zone resembling an arena that becomes accessible after completing the main storyline missions. In this instance, instead of facing a single monster, you’ll engage in a frenzied battle against two Ajarakans simultaneously. To manage this intense fight, consider using your Slinger to elevate the gate and divide the monsters, allowing you to concentrate on one and defeat it before proceeding to tackle the other.
As a fan, I’d advise focusing on fortifying your armor for maximum fire resistance against the Ajarakans. Since they’re resistant to fire damage, it would be wise to bring a weapon that dishes out ice or water damage instead. This tactic could prove particularly effective when aiming for their vulnerable spots.
