Wile E. Coyote Demands Warner Bros. Release Shelved Film

Over the last few years, Warner Bros. Discovery chose not to release several films in order to claim substantial tax deductions, such as Batgirl, Scoob! Holiday Haunt, and Coyote Vs. Acme. These films may never get a chance to be shown. Recently, a fan has expressed their discontent by dressing up as Wile E. Coyote, carrying a sign that reads, “Set me free!!”, in protest against Warner Bros. for keeping these movies hidden.

After a wave of public demand, Warner Bros. granted permission for the creators to explore distribution options outside their company, including movie studios and streaming platforms like Paramount, Netflix, and Amazon. However, Warner Bros. sought a significant investment of $75 to $80 million for the film, causing these potential buyers to decline the offer.

After the movie Coyote Vs. Acme was put on hold, the team had a special screening, which they called a “funeral viewing,” so everyone could witness the outcome of their hard work. During an interview with MovieWeb while promoting his new film, Kinda Pregnant alongside Amy Schumer, Will Forte shared insights about the situation.

Initially, I believed the film’s non-release was utterly unfair. Despite its charm, it didn’t receive the recognition it truly deserved. Unfortunately, I can’t explain why this decision was made. It’s frustrating and leaves me feeling heated. By the way, thank you for bringing up the topic. I enjoy discussing this movie because I hope it keeps people aware of what happened to us.

According to Condor’s statement to Screen Rant, the team concluded that the “funeral screening” had been a successful film and they believed it ought to be distributed, expressing their opinion that it was a good movie.

At the funeral viewing, I had a moment of doubt, thinking maybe the movie wasn’t as great as I initially believed, but boy, was I wrong! Upon watching it, I realized it was my finest work to date. I found it hilarious, kind, and filled with a powerful, positive message. It was such a heartbreaking realization for me, and I imagine for everyone else too.

Even though there have been leaks of backstage videos and whispers about the movie potentially being released, Warner Bros. has shown no signs of changing their stance, and the film continues to remain unavailable (on the virtual shelf).

‘Batgirl’ Was Among the Films Shelved by Warner Bros.

In August 2022, Warner Bros. caused a stir in the movie industry by scrapping the release of their Batgirl film, despite it being fully shot and estimated to have cost around $90 million. The lead role was played by Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman, J.K. Simmons portraying Commissioner Gordon, and Brendan Fraser taking on the villain Firefly.

The studio’s announcement deepened the enigma surrounding their decision to scrap two high-budget films, costing tens of millions each.

The choice not to premiere ‘Batgirl’ signifies a new direction for our management concerning the DC universe and HBO Max. It’s important to clarify that Leslie Grace, an exceptionally skilled actor, was not the reason for this decision. We greatly appreciate the hard work of the ‘Batgirl’ and ‘Scoob! Holiday Haunt’ teams, including their cast members, and we eagerly look forward to working with them again in the future.

It seems that despite the protests from film teams, fans, and fellow Hollywood stars, Warner Bros. does not seem to be making any moves to release any of their films. Given James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooting of the DC Universe, there’s a strong possibility we might never get to see Batgirl.
