In about four weeks, the much-anticipated movie adaptation of “Minecraft“, the popular video game, will be hitting cinemas. Now, we’ve got our first glimpse at one of the popcorn buckets that Cinemark Theatres will offer. Moviegoers eager to witness the transition of the pixelated sandbox world onto the big screen can now bring a piece of the excitement home with them by purchasing a TNT crate-inspired snack container. This design, reminiscent of the game’s pixel art and literally resembling a TNT box due to its inspiration, is bound to gain popularity because it’s as explosive as real dynamite!
A bucket showcased on X/Twitter by Cinemark (as shown below) was revealed together with various other promotional items for the highly-anticipated action-packed blockbuster. Notably, a popcorn and drink container shaped like a “chicken jockey” is certain to pique the interest of Minecraft enthusiasts. This unique item depicts a baby zombie riding a chicken, a scene familiar from the game and hinted at in the final trailer released by Warner Bros. The scene in question features Jack Black’s character Steve introducing the “chicken jockey,” followed by Jason Momoa’s character Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison encountering the chaotic figure.
Besides Black and Momoa, the cast also includes Danielle Brooks from Orange is the New Black, Emma Myers from Wednesday, Sebastian Eugene Hansen from Lisey’s Story, Jennifer Coolidge from The White Lotus, Kate McKinnon from Ghostbusters, Jemaine Clement from Harold and the Purple Crayon, and Matt Berry from What We Do in the Shadows. This talented group will help create and breathe life into the world as A Minecraft Movie hits theaters this April. It’s expected to have a strong opening weekend at the box office, and cinema chains like Regal are offering unique souvenirs such as a pink sheep popcorn container and a creeper cup for drinks. Keep an eye out for more fun items to collect when other locations screen the video game movie.
A Cinematic Trend That Continues to Pop Off
This year on National Popcorn Day, Cinemark Theaters offered to fill up any container brought by customers with their famous salty, buttery snack for just $5. Unfortunately, this offer was only available for one day. However, the large TNT box accompanying the upcoming movie A Minecraft Movie seems to hold a generous amount of popcorn, providing more value for money. The deal includes a bucket and a large drink for $25, but the bucket itself is also a collectible for fans who have been following the surge in cinematic trends over the past few years.
Theater visits these days often come with the added excitement of unique popcorn buckets tied to major releases. This year alone, we’ve been thrilled by the red, white, and blue shield associated with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in the tie-in for “Captain America: Brave New World”, a mine cart from the anticipated film “Snow White” starring Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler, and the cursed toy from Osgood Perkins’ adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Monkey”. These special items continue a tradition of memorable collectibles, such as Wolverine’s open-mouthed bucket for “Deadpool & Wolverine” and the sandworm-shaped container with tentacle topper for “Dune: Part 2”, which, unsurprisingly, sparked much online discussion in 2024.
A Minecraft Movie releases in theaters on April 4, 2025.
