Brian Cox’s Hilarious Butt Double Reveal in The Parenting Will Leave You in Stitches!

Mild SPOILERS are ahead for The Parenting, now streaming on Max.

One must-watch movie streaming this weekend is “The Parenting” – a highly recommended choice once you lay your eyes on its star-studded cast for the horror-comedy genre. With acting veterans like Brian Cox, Edie Falco, Lisa Kudrow, Dean Norris, and Parker Posey uniting, this movie promises a riot of laughter amidst chills at a secluded vacation spot. Despite anticipating that Brian Cox would be the most prominent actor in the film, I was caught off guard by the intriguing responses I received during my interviews with the cast and crew regarding him appearing nude in the movie. Believe it or not, this wasn’t even a question I initially planned to ask!

Initially, during my conversation with the director of “The Parenting”, Craig Johnson, he mentioned his intention to secure Brian Cox for the film. In simpler terms, he expressed his desire to cast Brian Cox in the movie.

Initially, I was taken aback when Brian Cox agreed to join the project, as I had assumed he wouldn’t be interested. However, the studio was determined to have him on board, and their persistence paid off. Upon his confirmation, I found myself pleasantly surprised because I adore the script, so it made perfect sense that a talented actor like Brian would sign up. Additionally, his involvement added credibility to the project, which in turn attracted other esteemed actors such as Edie Falco, Lisa Kudrow, Dean Norris, and Parker Posey.

Given that he’s part of the Succession ensemble and the actor is known for his criticism towards Hollywood, Johnson wasn’t sure if Cox would agree to star in his less serious film. However, when Cox did, it opened up opportunities for numerous big-name actors to join the cast.

In my conversation with actor Dean Norris, best known from “Breaking Bad”, he revealed some fascinating insights about working alongside a 78-year-old individual. However, what took me by surprise was when he disclosed that Kevin Cox had once shown his real backside in a film – as shared by Norris himself.

Following Succession, I found myself immersed in another captivating performance – one that showcased a seasoned actor at his rawest and most vulnerable. Having filmed this project a couple of years ago, it’s safe to say he might have had just one more season left. This man, whom I admired for his acting chops, was a curmudgeonly character on screen, and off-screen, he proved to be quite the charmer over shared drinks throughout the movie.

I must confess, his willingness at his advanced age to bare all in the film took courage that left me in awe. As I watched him dive headfirst into this bold role, I found myself thinking, “What a brave soul.” He embraced it wholeheartedly, as if to say, ‘This is what I’m doing.’

Experiencing such a transformation from his powerful character on Succession was nothing short of remarkable. I should add that there were no stunt doubles involved; every scene featuring him was undeniably his work – every scar, every line, and yes, even his bare bottom. Truly an experience to remember.

As I chatted with Norris, he commended Brian Cox for accepting the role, finding it particularly noteworthy given his recent portrayal of Logan Roy in Succession, serving as a sort of counterpart. Notably, this esteemed British actor is also a highly-skilled Shakespearean performer who bagged two Laurence Olivier Awards for his work in theatre during the ’80s.

Following the event depicted in the film where Cox’s character is taken over by a spirit inside their cabin, I sought clarification from Johnson regarding that specific moment. He offered additional insights on the scene.

He was game for it. You know, I will reveal a little cinema secret. There is a butt double there.

I’m in a bit of a quandary about these answers. To be truthful, whether or not Brian Cox really exposed himself on The Parenting is less important to me compared to the inconsistency regarding the use of a butt double. Are we being fooled by Dean Norris and his friend Cox? It can be tricky to discern fact from fiction when conversing with actors, but when he mentioned it, it certainly felt genuine.

Regardless, someone is in charge of “The Parenting” role, and it’s quite amusing, adding to the many entertaining improvisations throughout the film. Additionally, another cast member shared a story about an incident similar to a famous “Friends” moment involving Lisa Kudrow on set.
