Spoilers for Mickey 17 and Blink Twice lie ahead, so keep reading at your own discretion.
Presently, Hollywood is teeming with rising stars who are making a name for themselves in the entertainment world. Among these talented individuals, there’s one who I believe deserves more recognition – Naomie Ackie. She has been working in the industry for nearly a decade and has secured significant roles in recent years, such as those in “Blink Twice” and the upcoming 2025 film “Mickey 17”. However, it seems that her contributions are being underappreciated, and this situation needs to be rectified soon.
From 2015 onwards, this 32-year-old actress has been featured in films and television series such as “Lady Macbeth”, “Doctor Who”, and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”. She also starred in the 2022 biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” as Whitney Houston, a significant role. Given her impressive resume, it’s frustrating that she doesn’t get as much recognition as some of her contemporaries. Two recent projects showcase her acting talent, and we’re going to delve into those right now.
Blink Twice Serves As An Excellent Showcase Of Naomi Ackie’s Talents
Previously called “Pussy Island”, the movie titled “Blink Twice” signifies Zoë Kravitz’s first directorial venture. In this production, Naomi Ackie assumes the central role of Frida, a nail artist and cocktail waitress. The narrative centers around Frida’s visit to an island owned by a dubious billionaire named Slater, an experience that turns out to be far more harrowing than she had ever anticipated. Given its focus on sensitive topics like sexual assault and violence, the film carries a heavy thematic weight. To elaborate, Ackie delivers an outstanding performance as the movie’s main character.
In this film, the character of Frida gives the actress from “Master of None” a chance to portray a complex woman yearning for an escape from her routine existence. Although the role is infused with humor, it also requires the actress to convincingly convey feelings of unease. Additionally, she gets to explore more unconventional aspects as the plot involves extensive use of hallucinogens and mind-altering substances. However, it’s when her character discovers that women on the island have been sexually assaulted and their memories erased that the British actress truly shines. Not only does she learn that she herself was a victim in a tragic past incident, but also that she had previously been on the island.

Blink Twice Review: An Unexpectedly Cool Thriller From First-Time Director Zoë Kravitz
In this scenario, the character is required to portray a strong emotional outburst, comparable to justified fury, due to their accumulated frustrations. It’s Ackie’s acting that prevents Frida’s actions, such as taking someone’s life, from appearing cruel but necessary. The empathy Ackie brings to the character of Frida makes her a compelling protagonist and an easy figure for audience support. Furthermore, these qualities also play a significant role in the enjoyment derived from the twist ending, where it is disclosed that Frida assumes control over Slater’s company after his mind has been wiped.
Essentially, “Blink Twice,” which received positive reviews, offers the actress from London an excellent opportunity to showcase her acting talents as a leading role. Yet, her most recent movie provides her with even richer content to deliver a remarkable performance.

Mickey 17 Solidifies Naomi Ackie As A Force To Be Reckoned With
Bong Joon-ho impresses yet again with the critically acclaimed sci-fi black comedy “Mickey 17,” starring Robert Pattinson in a standout performance. In this future-set film, Pattinson plays Mickey, an expendable – someone who repeatedly dies and is brought back to life as they complete dangerous missions. Remarkably, Pattinson delivers a top-notch performance that effectively becomes a dual role for him. Additionally, it’s worth noting the outstanding portrayal by Ms. Ackie as Nasha Barridge, a security agent and Mickey’s love interest.
In less capable hands, Nasha might have been a one-dimensional character, but thanks to Bong Joon-hoo and Ackie’s combined efforts, she becomes a richly complex individual. She convincingly embodies the character’s strength, yet also subtly portrays her weaknesses and kindness. It’s a challenging role because Nasha must both be a pillar of support for Mickey while remaining an independent personality – something that Ackie achieves effortlessly. To add to this, when sharing the screen with Pattinson, Ackie holds her own admirably.

The actress from The End of the F***ing World shines in the movie because she skillfully portrays lighthearted moments. This is particularly evident when she discovers that both Mickey 17 and his clone, Mickey 18, exist, and she enjoys being with them both. (The character’s humorously exuberant delight during this scene is enhanced by the fact that she’s under the influence of illicit substances.)
In addition, it’s important to note the intense aspects of her performance, particularly evident during the movie’s climax. For instance, there’s the daring way she rescues the young Creeper character, Zocco, from certain death. Furthermore, let me remind you of Nasha’s impressive methods for overpowering the arrogant and unkind Ylfa Marshall (though I won’t reveal the specifics to avoid spoilers). To sum up, rest assured that Ackie delivers an outstanding performance in this role, earning much recognition and praise.

What Might The Future Hold For Naomi Ackie In Hollywood?
For the actress who once graced the screen as the Snow Queen, the journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. She encountered racism from Star Wars fans years ago, in addition to the usual challenges newcomers in the industry face. If she maintains her current momentum, though, there’s a good chance she’ll have a shining future ahead in entertainment. Of course, many people still aren’t familiar with her work yet. I can only hope that her latest movie, along with her upcoming roles in The Thursday Murder Club and I Love Boosters, will help increase her visibility.
Here’s wishing Naomie Ackie gets all the recognition she deserves in Hollywood someday and keeps shining amidst its uncertainty. Don’t forget to catch her in the movie “Mickey 17” at your local cinema, and don’t miss out on streaming “Blink Twice” with a Prime Video membership.
