Did You Know Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal, and Taapsee Pannu’s Manmarziyaan was first filmed with different cast? Here’s what happened mid-way

I had the pleasure of watching Kanika Dhillon’s Manmarziyaan, where Taapsee Pannu, Abhishek Bachchan, and Vicky Kaushal shone in their respective roles. However, you might be surprised to know that they weren’t the original choices for this project. Intriguingly, the film initially started with a different group of actors, but as things progressed, they found themselves uncomfortable with their roles and decided to step away. This necessitated a total re-shoot with a brand new cast, leading us to the current trio that graced our screens in this movie.

In a chat with SCREEN, Kanika Dhillon reminisced about her writing journey, highlighting the challenges she faced in making her mark within the industry. She disclosed that the film Manmarziyaan underwent approximately five years of development, involving numerous revisions, script polishing, and searching for the perfect crew to bring it to life on screen. She referred to this process as her “toughest hurdle encountered thus far.

The movie Manmarziyaan encountered obstacles beyond simple revisions; production initially began, but was temporarily halted before resuming with an entirely new cast. She explained, “Manmarziyaan started and then paused, only to restart again with a fresh group of actors. Many performers were reluctant to take on these roles due to doubts that the audience wouldn’t embrace it.

Kanika went on to clarify that numerous performers found it challenging to accept their parts because of the unusual interpersonal relationships portrayed. The thought of a devoted spouse alongside an indecisive boyfriend appeared perilous to them. During her quest to find the ideal cast, she faced reservations and misgivings from prospective actors. Nevertheless, she’s convinced that the eventual cast was meant for this movie, as they proved to be ideally suited for their respective roles.

Kanika Dhillon discussed the transformation taking place in Bollywood, pointing out that viewers now have higher standards, preferring content over celebrity status. She highlighted how streaming platforms have influenced this shift, as box office success is increasingly tied to compelling storytelling rather than just having a famous actor. Although a star can initially capture interest, she contends that the key factor determining a film’s destiny in today’s market lies within its content.

Currently, in the professional sphere, Kanika Dhillon has recently finished shooting for Gandhari, a vengeance-themed movie. This script was penned by Dhillon herself and is being produced under her banner, Kathha Pictures. The esteemed Devashish Makhija is directing this project.
