- Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is hitting early access
- There’s only one catch, it’s only on Steam (for now)
- But that’ll be the first time we’ll see people get hands-on with it
In terms of groundbreaking works within the realm of dark medieval fantasy, it’s hard to find disagreement that Game of Thrones stands as a benchmark for many contemporary viewers. However, since the conclusion of the HBO miniseries, the original landscape of Westeros has primarily been inactive except for the offshoot series House of the Dragon.
However, here’s some good news about gaming! Netmarble’s anticipated title, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, will make its debut on early access starting March 26th. The only hitch is that it will initially be available exclusively through Steam. Unfortunately, this means mobile gamers won’t get to join in for the moment.
This strategic step is quite intriguing for Netmarble, who are commonly recognized as a company primarily working on mobile games. However, if any game has the potential to attract a large audience, it’s definitely Game of Thrones. Fingers crossed that a successful early access campaign on Steam leads to its release on mobile devices in the near future.
Insert Jon Snow knowing nothing joke here
Currently, Netmarble’s strategy seems puzzling to me, given their long-standing focus on mobile gaming. It could possibly be a trial by fire scenario, as desktop gamers are known for being particularly critical of anything that appears to disrupt their gaming experience.
Nevertheless, this situation might leave mobile gamers, who are relatively more accommodating, in a predicament. Similarly to what transpired with Once Human and Delta Force, these games (from different publishers) appear to prioritize PC gaming over mobile.
It seems that traditionally mobile-focused businesses are increasingly adopting strategies prioritizing PC platforms. Only time will tell if this trend continues.
If you’re seeking a means to pass the time until Game of Thrones: Kingsroad becomes available on mobile, consider giving a spin to some of the games from our freshly updated list of the top 5 mobile games worth trying this week!
