Starting soon, Paramount Global’s streaming platform, Paramount+, is set to introduce two additional subscription options in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria: a basic plan with advertisements and a premium plan. These new tiers will complement the existing standard option available in these regions.
Beginning on March 26, 2023 (Wednesday), the Premium plan will debut in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In Germany and Austria, it will be priced at €12.99 ($14.08) per month. For Swiss residents, the monthly fee will be 17.90 Swiss francs ($20.31). If you prefer an annual subscription, it will cost €115.99 ($125.73) in Germany and Austria, and 161 Swiss francs ($182.73) in Switzerland. The Premium plan boasts high-quality video options like 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos on selected titles, and allows streaming on up to four devices simultaneously.
This upcoming summer, the standard tier with ads will be launched across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In Germany and Austria, it’ll be priced at €5.99 ($6.49) monthly, while in Switzerland, it’ll cost 7.90 Swiss francs equivalent to $8.97 USD. For an annual plan, you can expect to pay €52.99 ($57.45) or 71 Swiss francs ($80.58).
Paramount+ is experiencing robust growth in international subscribers as fans worldwide are drawn to our service by popular shows like Landman, Happy Face, SpongeBob, and Star Trek,” stated Marco Nobili, executive vice president and international general manager for Paramount+. “The evolving subscription models in the streaming industry are providing consumers with greater choices, allowing them to tailor their experiences at various price points.
Nobili announced that the new tier launches have been successful in various other markets. He mentioned that around half of the direct-to-consumer sign-ups in Australia, Canada, U.K., Brazil, and Mexico are for non-standard plans. Nobili is optimistic that this trend will continue as we introduce more multi-tier options in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
Lee Sears, the president of international markets advertising sales at Paramount, stated: “Extending our ad-tier plan for Paramount+ to additional markets will provide a great chance for advertisers. By collaborating with us, partners can engage with fans of our popular global franchises, films, and series, in an uninterrupted, comprehensive, and powerful manner across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
Regarding trends in three specific markets, Nobili shared with The Hollywood Reporter: “At year-end, we witnessed unprecedented viewership in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria (GSA). This impressive feat was fueled by the popularity of series such as Tulsa King season 2, Star Trek: Discovery, Germany Shore season 4, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One. This achievement underscores the significance of GSA as a significant market for expansion.
Additionally, he stated: “We’ve successfully set up our presence, showcased the strength of our content, and generated substantial recognition in crucial markets such as GSA. I am confident that we will witness a steady increase in direct-to-consumer subscribers as we provide customers with additional options for enjoying our exceptional movies, franchises, and series.
In the GSA region, Paramount+ is set to feature a variety of exciting new content. This includes “MobLand”, a fresh series by Guy Ritchie starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. Also, the European original series “Parallel Me“, where a young woman explores different versions of her life, featuring Malaya Stern Takeda, David Kross, and Maria Schrader. Additionally, blockbuster movies such as “Gladiator II”, now available on the platform in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria from May 28, along with “Transformers One” and “Smile 2”.
