Warner Bros. Reportedly Scraps Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy DLC

After Hogwarts Legacy did so well, Warner Bros. was clearly gearing up for more.

2025 looks promising, as it’s rumored that a revised version of our favorite game will hit the shelves, featuring all-new narrative material.

Initially, the upcoming addition was intended to incorporate previously removed material from the original version, such as a plotline for one of the characters. However, it appears that this additional content will not be included in the expansion anymore.

According to Bloomberg, Warner Bros. decided to scrap the planned DLC (Downloadable Content) due to doubts within the company about whether the cost was justified by the content’s value. The insiders said that the content wasn’t substantial enough to warrant the proposed price.

In addition to the DLC, the planned “Definitive Edition” was also canceled, marking an end to what would have been the largest expansion for the game following its release.

As a gamer, I’ve been following the development of an exciting project that was no ordinary teamwork. Avalanche Software, the masterminds behind Hogwarts Legacy, and Rocksteady, famous for the Batman: Arkham series including last year’s Suicide Squad game, were on board. We started working diligently on an expansion pack, but as we worked tirelessly behind closed doors, it didn’t quite meet our high expectations.

Apart from this, Warner Bros. has also made some other changes lately. In fact, they’ve been revamping their gaming sector due to a challenging year in 2024.

Over the past few months, they’ve pulled the plug on the Wonder Woman game, shut down three separate studios, and let go of employees throughout their various departments. There have also been changes at the leadership level, with rumors suggesting that the head of the games division will be leaving later in the year.

Despite some negative feedback, things aren’t entirely bleak for Hogwarts Legacy. In fact, it has managed to sell over 34 million copies, and Warner Bros. remains steadfast in their commitment to the franchise.

Avalanche Studios appears to be focusing on developing a complete sequel, preferring to continue with their most successful intellectual properties rather than experimenting with smaller expansions or spin-offs.

The expansion might be on hold, but the Wizarding World in games is far from done.
