On March 27, 2025, the final episode of Season 3 for “Reacher” was nothing short of spectacular. Viewers were hooked from start to finish, appreciating the gripping climax of a thrilling installment in Jack Reacher’s screen storyline. Since its premiere in 2022, this series has been a hit on Prime Video, garnering a dedicated fanbase and impressive Rotten Tomatoes ratings. The high-octane “Reacher” series, inspired by Lee Child’s novels, skillfully portrays Reacher’s intense, straightforward universe on screen.
In the third season of “Reacher”, Alan Ritchson’s character Reacher set out to take down Xavier Quinn, a past adversary who was behind the death of his first apprentice, Dominique Kohl. The series ended with Reacher not only accomplishing his objective but also assisting Agent Susan Duffy (Sonya Cassidy) of the DEA in completing her mission. The finale seemed to wrap up all the storylines neatly, as Reacher hopped on a motorcycle and rode off towards the unknown. Naturally, this leaves us wondering which novel the fourth season might be based on, with the third book in Lee Child’s series appearing to be a strong possibility.
The Third Reacher Book Is Perfect for ‘Reacher’ Season 4
In October 2024, it was announced that the fourth season of Reacher had been greenlit, well ahead of the third season’s premiere. One potential blockbuster for Season 4 is Lee Child’s third Jack Reacher novel titled “Tripwire.”
The story begins with Reacher enjoying a laid-back existence in Key West, Florida, but trouble inevitably comes knocking on his door from his past. His investigation leads him to New York City, where he rekindles ties with Jodie Garber, the daughter of his deceased mentor, General Leon Garber. As Reacher digs deeper for answers, he finds himself in a perilous game against a formidable adversary: Victor ‘Hook’ Hobie, who ranks among the most menacing villains in the Reacher series.
In the finale of Season 3, Jack Reacher goes back to his solitary ways, offering a fresh start for the plotline of the upcoming novel ‘Tripwire’. Since Reacher eliminated Quinn in the season’s final moments, there are no lingering enemies from the previous storyline. This clean break sets up Reacher to confront the new antagonist, Hobie, introduced by ‘Tripwire’. Additionally, the book introduces a potential love interest for Reacher named Jodie Garber. Given that Reacher severed his professional and personal ties with Duffy at the end of Season 3, the arrival of Jodie as a new romantic interest is timely and fitting.
In addition, it should be mentioned that Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), who is currently starring in her own spinoff series, will not appear in Tripwire. This could be a strategic move since Sten might be too busy with her own show to participate in Reacher Season 4. However, the creator of Reacher, Nick Santora, has shown a tendency to deviate from the original novels by exercising creative freedom. This flexibility could potentially allow Neagley’s character to be incorporated into the Tripwire storyline if Santora believes she fits well. This was also the case with Season 3, where Neagley was not present in the source text, Persuader, but still made an appearance in its adaptation.
What Does the Cast Think ‘Reacher’ Season 4 Should Adapt?
For Season 4 of Reacher, Tripwire seems a fitting choice, but it’s important to remember that Jack Reacher’s world, created by Child, spans across 29 books. The man behind the indomitable Reacher, Alan Ritchson, has shared his preference for Die Trying, the second book in the series, to be adapted onto screens. As a matter of fact, Ritchson mentioned to Men’s Journal that “Die Trying” is his favorite book.
I’m quite excited about this possibility. So far, there’s been a great deal of debate over whether it’s a good idea or not. Time will tell what lies ahead. Regardless, I’ll figure out a solution.
Instead of Ritchson favoring “Die Trying,” Maria Sten expressed her preference for adapting a different book, specifically the sixth one penned by Child. This book puts Neagley in the spotlight as its main character.
My all-time favorite book happens to be “Without Fail,” although I highly doubt a sequel will ever materialize. If only Lee Child could bring Jack Reacher back for another adventure in this story, it would truly make my day!
Although Ritchson and Sten hold a certain viewpoint, Lee Child expresses a different perspective. Particularly, Child takes pride in one specific book of his and desires it to be adapted into a Reacher series, as he shared during an interview with Business Insider.
Among all my books, the one I feel most accomplished about is ‘The Midnight Line’. This novel tackles the opioid crisis and offers a deeply empathetic perspective from the addict’s viewpoint. I wonder if it could work well as a TV show, and I’d be intrigued to find out.
What Is the Status of ‘Reacher’ Season 4?
As I type this, specifics about the fourth season of Reacher are being tightly guarded. Despite it being given the go-ahead last year, no cast or plot details for the new season have been revealed yet. The only thing confirmed regarding the cast is that Alan Ritchson will once again take on the title role in the upcoming season. Fans also anticipate that some familiar faces might reappear, possibly including Neagley and perhaps Oscar Finlay.
According to the latest updates, filming for Reacher Season 4 is set to commence around mid-2025. As previously announced last October, preparations for the fourth season have been ongoing. In an interview with Tech Radar, Child stated, “The script is written and it’s ready to be filmed. We’ll start shooting in the summer.” Speculations about Season 5 are already circulating, but let’s hope production on that follows. If Reacher sticks to its usual schedule, fans can look forward to Season 4 airing in the summer of 2026. By the way, you can catch up with Seasons 1-3 on Prime Video.
