Kevin Smith’s ‘Dogma’ Returning to Theaters in June

The 25th-year theater premiere of Kevin Smith’s comedic take on religion, “Dogma,” featuring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, is scheduled for June 5.

AMC Theatres and Iconic Events are organizing a nationwide tour in 25 cities for the exclusive release of “Dogma” after Smith reacquired the rights to the movie from Harvey Weinstein, who was previously its owner and producer. Smith, known for his roles as a writer, director, and Silent Bob, made several films under Weinstein’s Miramax label, including both “Clerks” movies, “Mall Rats”, “Chasing Amy”, and “Dogma”.

1999’s film, titled “Dogma,” features Affleck and Damon as fallen angels who uncover a loophole in Catholic teachings that might enable them to re-enter Heaven. However, they encounter unexpected opponents, such as Linda Fiorentino (playing a woman grappling with faith), Chris Rock (the 13th Apostle who was erased), and the duo Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith). Together, these characters strive to thwart the impending apocalypse.

On Easter Sunday, April 20th, Smith is set to initiate the 25th anniversary theatrical tour of his unconventional interpretation of American Catholicism, titled “Dogma”, with a grand premiere at The Grove in Los Angeles. This classic film, now remastered in stunning 4K quality, will offer theatergoers an exclusive opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with Smith, scheduled before the official release on June 5th.

Smith expressed gratitude, saying, “Forgive me, Father — I’ve got some exciting news! It seems that divine intervention has allowed my fourth (and arguably best) film to receive a religious re-release! Let us rejoice and share the popcorn, for the return of Dogma is upon us!” This was shared in a statement on Tuesday.

The itinerary for the national tour features locations such as San Diego, Phoenix, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Boston, New York City (NYC), Philadelphia, Atlanta, Tampa, and Orlando, along with Smith’s local cinema, Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.
