During its 10-season span, the TV show “Friends” featured a stellar array of guest stars, including George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Reese Witherspoon (a big fan of Friends), and Paul Rudd. Notably, Rudd played Mike, Phoebe’s love interest across the last two seasons. Now, reflecting back on his time on NBC’s sitcom, Paul Rudd is sharing his experiences working alongside the late Matthew Perry.
Rudd, who recently appeared as a guest star on “Friends,” has shared heartfelt words about Perry, who tragically passed away in 2023. Despite joining the show towards its end, Rudd fondly remembered Perry’s kindness. He told the Wall Street Journal that he once walked past Perry’s dressing room and was so drawn to him that he asked him to join for a game of video games right then and there.
Perry exclaimed, “Hey there, step right in!” Now, I wasn’t much of a gamer back then. I’m not sure he was either. Yet, here’s the thing – despite our differences, he invited me in. We ended up playing video games together. And whenever I recall him, that moment is what stands out to me.
Spending time with Perry was truly unique, and it’s evident that Redd holds that memory dear. It was also an excellent opportunity to connect, and it underscores the kind-hearted nature of the late actor. Joining Friends during its ninth season couldn’t have been simple for the actor from Death of a Unicorn, but Perry certainly made the transition smoother. Now, he has that special moment etched in memory forever.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve always been candid about my brief stint on “Friends,” particularly the surreal experience of appearing in the series finale when my character wasn’t even a regular cast member. Yet, the comedy magic of that show left an indelible mark, and to this day, people often approach me with fond memories of the iconic sitcom. Despite playing a significant role in Phoebe’s storyline, I must admit, it felt somewhat odd given the colossal moment it was for the principal actors. Nevertheless, looking back, it appears that role had a profound impact on my career for numerous reasons.

Over a year has passed since his death, yet his legacy continues to endure eternally.
Since Paul Rudd was part of Friends during its last two seasons, I often ponder about the unique experiences he might have had with Perry or the whole cast.
