A fresh installment of Star Wars anthology stories is coming soon under the Tales label from the franchise. The series kicked off in 2022 with ‘Tales of the Jedi’, followed by ‘Tales of the Empire’ in 2024, and now we’re eagerly awaiting ‘Tales of the Underworld‘ on May 4, 2025. This new season will focus on Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane, who were key characters in The Clone Wars and later reappeared in The Bad Batch. As someone excited to catch this episode as part of the upcoming Star Wars movies and TV shows lineup with my Disney+ subscription, I can’t help but express some reservations about the Ventress storyline.
Prior to discussing my worry, let’s first check out the recently released trailer for “Tales of the Underworld“. This sneak peek offers a glimpse into the adventures that lie ahead for these renowned bounty hunters from a distant galaxy across three episodes each:
In the upcoming series “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld“, Cad Bane’s origin story will unfold, a character you may remember from “The Book of Boba Fett“. As for Asajj Ventress, her narrative will focus on shielding a young Palawan who survived Order 66, likely from one of the Empire’s Inquisitors. It remains uncertain if this story takes place before or after her role in “The Bad Batch“, but regardless, I’m glad she’ll have another chance to take center stage. Following her demise in the book “Dark Disciple“, it appeared that any future Ventress appearances would be confined to the Clone Wars era or earlier.

As a supporter, I’m excited to share that with Disney+, you can dive deep into the Star Wars universe starting at just $9.99 a month for their new ad-supported plan. If you prefer an ad-free experience, it’s $15.99 a month, or you can save 16% and prepay $159.99 for a year. Don’t miss out on Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld and more fantastic Star Wars content! My concern is that the show Tales of the Underworld doesn’t seem to offer any insight into how Asajj Ventress is still alive after her apparent death during the Clone Wars. In The Bad Batch, she appeared as if nothing unusual had occurred, sporting hair and a yellow lightsaber, which was quite unexpected given her past as Count Dooku’s former assassin. She even approached Clone Force 99 in “The Harbinger” to test Omega’s Force sensitivity, but she didn’t mention anything about her previous demise. Given the limited time available for the episode (about 25 minutes), I can understand why this wasn’t addressed at the time.
Based on the trailer for “Tales of the Underworld“, it appears that Ventress’ backstory regarding her resurrection might not be fully explained. It could be that the preview is omitting related footage, or we may uncover the details through dialogue, but it seems clear that the focus is on depicting Ventress caring for her new companion. Despite having more time to develop the story compared to the mentioned “Bad Batch” episode, there might not be space to address this ongoing enigma in depth.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’s 20th Anniversary Popcorn Container is quite strong, but I must admit, I’m particularly fond of the collectible cup that accompanies it.
According to the showrunner of Andor, here’s why Diego Luna’s Star Wars series is limited to just two seasons: It was ‘Conceived out of necessity’.
Originally planned as a series of episodes for “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” which ended production in 2023 before being revived for its seventh and final season in 2020, the stories were instead compiled into the novel “Dark Disciple” by Christie Golden. Readers of “Dark Disciple” are aware that Ventress was slain by Count Dooku during her time with the Jedi she had grown fond of, Quinlan Vos; however, viewers who have only watched “The Clone Wars” up to Season 5 know only that Ventress disappeared afterward.
It’s reasonable to assume that Asajj Ventress’ “Tales of the Underworld” might not explore her death and resurrection to avoid causing confusion among readers. If this is true, it would be unfortunate since many Star Wars fans, including myself who loved her portrayal in “The Clone Wars” and found “Dark Disciple” to be one of the best Star Wars books, would like to see more about this part of her history. Given the unpredictable nature of the Star Wars franchise, we should take advantage of these opportunities when they present themselves, as it’s uncertain if we’ll ever see Ventress onscreen again. Fingers crossed that this isn’t the case!
As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I can’t wait to immerse myself in the tales of Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane when “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” premieres on May 4th. If their reappearance in the series doesn’t shed light on how Ventress was resurrected, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that Lucasfilm plans to publish a book detailing those events. It’s a story that needs to be told!
