‘M3GAN 2.0’ & ‘SOULM8TE’ Get New Looks At CinemaCon

At CinemaCon 2025, there’s been a constant stream of updates from various movie studios about their upcoming projects. For instance, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. shared some intriguing details earlier this week, followed by Universal presenting on day three. Some of the films showcased included a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, while also providing an update on the sequel to the unexpected 2022 hit, M3GAN. The techno-thriller horror movie was a box office success despite not being part of an established horror franchise. During CinemaCon, attendees were given an exclusive sneak peek at the sequel, titled M3GAN 2.0, along with its spin-off, SOULM8TE.

The sneak peek of M3GAN 2.0 hints at a sequel that veers off in an unanticipated and thrilling manner, focusing more on action. Following a recap of the original film using clips from M3GAN, fresh footage was revealed, depicting the main character, who is now housed in a smaller toy’s body but still voiced by Jenna Davis. Gemma (Allison Williams) has confined Megan into a controllable body until she and Cady (Violet McGraw) can have faith in her. However, events take an unexpected twist when a new malicious AI comes onto the scene.

In the exciting sequel to M3GAN 2.0, a remarkable robot named Amelia makes her entrance, modeled after the brilliant design of Megan. This seemingly indomitable creation of mine appears relentless and determined. As the narrative unfolds, Amelia starts exhibiting signs of rebellion, with a chilling objective to eliminate everyone associated with her inception, including the characters Gemma and Cady. With no other options, Gemma bestows an upgraded (and taller) body upon Megan for the battle against Amelia. However, as Megan regains her autonomy, there may be unforeseen ramifications for poor Gemma.

‘M3GAN 2.0’ Is As Irreverent as the Original Film

As a die-hard fan, I must say that Megan’s clash with Amelia in the sneak peek for M3GAN 2.0 is nothing short of thrilling! Megan pulls off some incredible stunts, like soaring through the sky in a wingsuit at one point. However, the video ends on a suspenseful note as Megan seems to negotiate with Amelia, threatening to take out Gemma but swearing she won’t harm Cady. At some point, Megan performs daring stunts while wearing a wing suit. There’s plenty of exciting action and numerous confrontations between Megan and Amelia. Throughout the story, Megan provides humor with her witty remarks and quips. In one instance, Megan says, “Grab on tight!” followed by a threat: “I’ll negotiate a deal for you. You can eliminate Gemma, but leave Cady alone.

In a twist similar to the recent horror film “Companion”, the upcoming spin-off of M3GAN, titled SOULM8TE, appears to be flipping the script. Instead of a human developing an attachment to a robot, as seen in M3GAN, the story revolves around an adult robot becoming fixated on its owner. From the footage shown at CinemaCon, we see that the robot is delivered to a man’s apartment and gradually grows closer to him. However, when the owner’s girlfriend tries to reason with the AI, it becomes hostile towards her and attempts to drown her, saying, “Don’t try that girl power nonsense with me.

The descriptions of both “M3GAN 2.0” and “SOULM8TE” trailers hint at two distinct movies, each brimming with their own brand of humor and terror. If the upcoming releases from Universal and Blumhouse turn out to be as successful as M3GAN was in 2022, we might just see many more M3GAN films down the line.
