Dr. Phil‘s media company Merit TV has named Ken Solomon as its new president and CEO.
Solomon, the ex-CEO of Tennis Channel, shares a longstanding friendship with Dr. Phil, also known as Phil McGraw. In fact, they enjoy playing tennis together.
Last year, Solomon departed from Tennis Channel to join forces with Joel Cheatwood, Merit’s executive VP and COO, in developing their budding business. This venture primarily focuses on talk shows, news, true crime, and some live sports.
Solomon discusses the business frequently, considering its growth trajectory and future direction. He admits to always trying to anticipate upcoming trends, which is simply a part of who they are and their relationship. As Phil contemplates the future, it’s only natural that they would share thoughts about potential developments in his career as a media icon and his impact within the industry, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
On Merit TV, McGraw is the main presenter for our prime-time program, frequently joined by other news broadcasts or shows fronted by seasoned television personalities such as Nancy Grace and Steve Harvey. Additionally, McGraw has utilized his connection with President Donald Trump, granting him interviews and exclusive access to report on his administration.
Solomon aims to help numerous individuals while keeping things enjoyable and engaging. His approach is down-to-earth yet backed by extensive research and commitment to facts, not just personal opinions. He’ll share his opinion if asked, but he encourages others to make their own decisions. To him, it’s like a collective of independent talents, similar to United Artists, where many in his position, such as Steve Harvey and Nancy Grace, built their brands across various platforms.
Recently, Merit unveiled a lineup of podcasts, among them one led by the former host of The Bachelor, Chris Harrison. These podcasts will not only be available as audio content but also broadcasted on television and streaming platforms. Moreover, they revealed their intention to venture into boxing through a partnership with TCL Team Boxing League.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled about delving deep into the new capabilities he now possesses, things he couldn’t do before. It’s all about uncovering the most captivating, relatable tales that resonate with the majority. These stories can be timeless or current, depending on the blend. We’re not turning this into a news library, but we do aim to keep it fresh and relevant, providing up-to-date information where necessary.
He mentions that there will be additional sports agreements forthcoming, focusing on “unexploited” or “undervalued” sports or organizations.
Solomon mentions that there are numerous sports collaborations we’re involved in. We have several upcoming partnerships lined up, which we’re readying to expand our business rapidly and significantly.
