Manoj Kumar Passes Away: Raveena Tandon honors him with his 3 ‘favorite’ things, reveals he launched her father in the industry

Notable actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, aged 87, passed away this morning (April 4) at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, causing widespread sorrow across the nation. Heartfelt condolences have been shared in abundance since his passing. Today, actress Raveena Tandon paid a visit to Kumar’s residence and spoke with the media. She revealed that it was Kumar who provided her father with his first break in the industry. Additionally, she paid tribute to him by presenting three of his ‘most cherished’ items.

Raveen Tandon stated, “I’ve known Manoj uncle for a long time. In fact, he provided my father with his first role in movies. Essentially, he has been more like a father figure to us all.

She remarked, “Today I’m bringing three things that I wish to present to her, which I have already prepared. I will be back in the morning to complete it. One is a Rudraksha mala of Mahakal, another is the vibhuti of Sai Baba, and the third is the flag of India. Because for me, she has always been India, she is India, and she shall remain India.

Today, I’ve left his three most cherished items behind for him – a Mahakal Rudraksha mala, Sai Baba’s vibhuti, and an Indian flag. These are my gifts to express my affection, which I have already arranged for him. I plan to return tomorrow morning with similar offerings. To me, he has always been India, he is India, and he shall forever remain India.

The actress added, “No one has made nor will make inspiring films about patriotism and films about devotion, as far as I know, and my favorite among them is ‘When India was Given Zero.’ They are our legends and will remain so.

In a way that’s easy to understand: No one has created films as inspiring, patriotic, or devotional as he did, nor will anyone likely do so in the future. Each of his songs is etched into memory, and among them, I particularly cherish “Jab Zero Diya Mere Bharat Ne.” He was, is, and forever will be our legendary figure.

Born as Harikrishnan Giri Goswami in Abbottabad (now part of Pakistan in 1937), Manoj Kumar later moved to Delhi due to the Partition. He first appeared in Bollywood in 1957 with Fashion, but it was his role in Kanch Ki Gudiya that truly launched his career. Beyond acting, he has also ventured into film directing, producing notable works such as Upkar, Shor and Jai Hind.
