The Sphere’s Next Big Bet Is ‘The Wizard of Oz’

Oz is officially coming to Las Vegas later this summer.

Sphere Entertainment, the organization responsible for the Las Vegas Sphere, has announced plans to debut an entirely engrossing adaptation of the 1939 film classic “The Wizard of Oz” starting from August onwards.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that our team collaborated with Warner Bros. Discovery, Google, and Magnopus to craft a unique rendition of “The Wizard of Oz.” Our goal is to preserve the authenticity of the original story while exploring the limits of Sphere’s immersive platform, offering an unparalleled experience for fans like me!

Additionally, the company’s Sphere Studios division is working on a fresh documentary venture titled “From the Edge“. This project is under the direction of Academy Award-winning duo E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, who are renowned for their work on “Free Solo“. The documentary will chronicle the lives of five daring athletes: free diver Alenka Artnik, skier Markus Eder, rock climber Alex Honnold, BASE jumper Katie Hansen Lajeunesse, and surfer Kai Lenny. They will be filmed using cutting-edge camera technology owned by the company.

From the Edge will debut in 2026.

Not only does Sphere Entertainment offer concerts and live events, but it also produces original entertainment outside of these. When Sphere debuted in 2023, it introduced an original project from Sphere Studios – Darren Aronofsky’s “Postcard From Earth.

Jim Dolan, the CEO of Sphere, expressed that our aim for ‘The Sphere Experience’ is to present a variety of content that fully utilizes Sphere’s capabilities as an immersive platform. He further mentioned that ‘The Wizard of Oz at Sphere’ and ‘From The Edge’ will each contribute uniquely to realizing this vision.
