The annual CinemaCon event concluded last night, with major studio Disney discussing their upcoming lineup. Previews were shown for titles like “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, “Thunderbolts”, and “Fantastic Four: First Steps”. Additionally, there were updates on “Avengers: Doomsday“, a long-awaited sequel following the extraordinary success of Endgame. After numerous changes in writers, directors, and titles, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that Robert Downey Jr. would reprise his role. However, this time he will portray Victor Von Doom. At CinemaCon, we learned more about who Downey Jr.’s character will face off against, thanks to the revelation by Kevin Feige.
Although Feige wasn’t physically present at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, he delivered a video message to attendees instead. In this message, he shared that filming for Avengers: Doomsday was about to start within the next few days. He also mentioned that there were yet-to-be-revealed cast members. The most intriguing aspect of the video, as reported by multiple outlets in attendance, was that the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and the original X-Men will all join forces to face off against Doctor Doom.
After an extended video showing the cast, some viewers speculated that the movie might involve the Avengers and X-Men clashing due to their different realms of existence. However, Feige’s statement about teamwork has made Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom seem like a more formidable antagonist instead.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Will Be the Biggest Marvel Studios Movie Yet
It’s thrilling to see so many stars connected with the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday”, and it seems this next Avengers movie will push its grand scale even further. As stated in a recent video by Kevin Feige, they’ve disclosed several, not every, name involved with the film. Notably missing are Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. Additionally, there’s speculation that some original X-Men actors might reappear too.
Instead of assuming that Avengers: Doomsday would primarily feature the multiverses colliding with Doom in the backdrop, it appears that the central theme will revolve around a united Avengers team. This aligns well thematically as the last two Avengers movies showcased a group of heroes divided, struggling to stop Thanos following the split in Captain America: Civil War. However, there’s still a possibility that the film may begin with a momentary conflict leading to a resolution where mutual understanding is established.
In the realm of the Multiverse Saga, it has been hinted that the Avengers are nowhere to be found, leaving a void in the world’s protection. It appears that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Thunderbolts, will delve into this matter, assembling a new team to take up the mantle. This fresh squad is about to make their mark in the impending Doomsday. The tantalizing tease of an epic team-up by Feige has sparked anticipation among fans for the next Avengers adventure, and with the Russo brothers steering the ship, a rejuvenation of the MCU is not unthinkable.
