In an exclusive interview, we had the opportunity to converse with Ma Anand Sheela, a key confidante of Osho. Her tale is nothing short of remarkable and certainly deserves a place in cinema. Interestingly, it was disclosed that filmmaker Shakun Batra, known for producing films such as Kapoor & Sons and Gehraiyaan, had planned to create a commercial film based on her life. Unfortunately, the project has yet to materialize due to difficulties in securing funding.

Ma Anand Sheela previously picked Alia Bhatt to portray her role in an upcoming film, but with current financial constraints, she’s unsure about the project’s prospects.

Initially, there were whispers that Priyanka Chopra Jonas might portray her character in a film. In response to these rumors, the 75-year-old stated, “No, she expressed interest in playing Sheela’s role, but she hadn’t consulted me about it yet. This was the issue that left me unsatisfied. One should always ask for permission before sharing such news, ‘What are your thoughts on this? As an ardent admirer, let me share this intriguing tidbit: Sheela Ambalal Patel, now known as simply Sheela, confessed a fascinating fact – she’s never watched a Bollywood movie in its entirety! Yet, she chanced upon a few moments from Alia Bhatt’s films and was struck by an uncanny resemblance. So captivated, she whispered to her sister that the National Award-winning actress bore a striking resemblance to her when she was young.

After recognizing it, Sheela promptly phoned Batra and emphasized this point. Her sibling too concurred with this observation, which ultimately led Sheela to believe that the actress portraying Gangubai Kathiawadi would be ideal for her part.

It’s worth noting that Shakun Batra directed a documentary film named “Searching for Sheela”, released in 2021. This film, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, provides an insightful look into the life of Ma Anand Sheela.
