Warning: spoilers for A Minecraft Movie are in play.
2025 movie lineup is bursting with creativity, particularly in a realm where imagination knows no bounds. The upcoming “Minecraft Movie” is set to transport viewers to places they’ve merely imagined, accompanied by Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and other hilarious, unexpected comedic talents.
In the realm of unexpectedly funny actors, there’s a notable talent who lends their voice in the mid-credits sequence of the film. If director Jared Hess gets his way, this could potentially spark a standalone movie within this cinematic universe. Given the mixed reviews for Minecraft, such a move might make for an interesting twist.

Matt Berry’s Short But Sweet Cameo In A Minecraft Movie Impressed Its Director
At the start of “A Minecraft Movie“, Vice Principal Marlene, played by Jennifer Coolidge, unintentionally strikes a Villager named Nitwit with her vehicle. This accident leads to an unexpected romantic bond. In a heart-warming climax, Nitwit proposes marriage to Marlene following a polite conversation with her former husband, Clemente (Hiram Garcia). It is also disclosed that the collision has bestowed upon Nitwit the melodious voice of Matt Berry.
In our Minecraft interview with Hess and Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Senior Creative Director of Original Content & Entertainment at Minecraft, Jeff McCobb from TopMob inquired about the collaboration that features a star from What We Do in the Shadows. This sparked a conversation about his enjoyable experience and potential implications for the future, as shared by the creative mind behind Napoleon Dynamite.
He’s one of the most hilarious individuals in existence! If only they’d make a spin-off film starring Jennifer Coolidge and Matt Berry as their bumbling couple, it could truly be sensational!
Now, that’s an idea I can get behind.
On the other hand, Torfi Frans Ólafsson raised an insightful observation concerning the possible rating of this upcoming spinoff.
Might not get a PG rating though.
The humor of Jennifer Coolidge and Matt Berry could potentially take a spinoff of Minecraft to an extremely mature level just through dialogue. Even if it were slightly less explicit, this project wouldn’t fit on the list of upcoming children’s movies due to the fact that kids might find it off-putting or inappropriate.
Yet, it’s the lesser-known part that Jared Hess highlighted in his glowing memory that I believe would truly make this project shine like precious diamonds.

Jared Hess Also Highlighted Jemaine Clement’s Role, Which Could Make This Spinoff Even Better
As his affection for his collaborators remained unwavering, it was only fitting that Jared Hess acknowledged Jemaine Clement.
As a fellow aficionado of “What We Do in the Shadows” lore, Clement was also a prominent actor in an earlier Hess production, “Gentlemen Broncos.” This film has been frequently brought up by viewers following the trailer release for “A Minecraft Movie,” reflecting the widespread admiration it garnered. Here’s what that enthusiasm sounded like at the time:
…He’s always inspiring me and is an invaluable friend. I adore him deeply. The notion of him portraying an eccentric cowboy who runs a storage facility was a long-cherished dream realized for me.
As a devoted admirer, if director Jared Hess is truly considering expanding his Minecraft universe with a romantic comedy, an intriguing antagonist is essential. Although Berry seems like the obvious choice, introducing Mr. Clement’s storage unit wrangler, who attempts to interfere in the love story, would add just the right dash of tension and excitement to make things really interesting!
In a manner similar to reality, Jason Momoa’s character Garrett highly appreciates Jennifer Coolidge. So it wouldn’t be surprising if this love triangle were to unfold in the Minecraft Movie: Lovers of the Year Edition. However, Nitwit is also quite charismatic, as who could resist a visage as endearing as his?

If you haven’t had a chance to watch “A Minecraft Movie” yet, it’s definitely worth giving it a try. Rest assured, I haven’t revealed any major plot points here, so you can sit back and enjoy the movie in the theater without any worries. However, keep in mind that Matt Berry’s voice isn’t featured throughout the film, scolding every character. So, if you expect that kind of narrative style, you might be disappointed. But, if your kids are fans of “Minecraft”, they’ll likely enjoy it!
