Shocking Confession: Avengers: Doomsday Stars Have Not Read the Script Yet!

Actors Florence Pugh and David Harbour have spilled a secret about Marvel’s strategy for maintaining secrecy around their upcoming MCU blockbuster, “Avengers: Doomsday.” Known for their stringent efforts to keep spoilers and details hidden, especially for their major film releases, Marvel is taking similar precautions with the first part of the two-part “Avengers” saga. With “Avengers: Doomsday” not set to release until May 1, 2026, directors the Russo Brothers are going to great lengths to safeguard the movie-watching experience, even by keeping details from the film’s A-list cast under wraps.

Last month, Marvel Studios officially started filming “Avengers: Doomsday”, and they’ve shared a list of 27 superheroes who will appear (for now), featuring members from the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. With such a large cast, there’s a higher risk of inadvertently revealing plot details, a fact that Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors for “Avengers: Doomsday”, are well aware of. To prevent any unintentional spoilers, they prefer to keep the actors in the dark as long as feasible, even during filming.

In the upcoming movies, “Thunderbolts” and “Avengers: Doomsday”, Florence Pugh and David Harbour will reprise their roles as Yelena Belova (Black Widow) and Alexei Shostakov (Red Guardian). These films are set to hit theaters on May 2 and later, respectively. However, neither of them knows the details of their characters’ roles in “Avengers: Doomsday” because they have not yet received a script for the sequel. When asked about this by Entertainment Tonight, Pugh stated, “I can’t reveal anything since I haven’t read the script.” In response, Harbour joked, “You haven’t read one? Oh my god, it’s so good,” before adding that he too is in the same situation. Withholding scripts from the cast might just be an effective way to keep secrets about the movie plot under wraps.

Florence Pugh and David Harbour Are Not Alone

In preparation for his standalone movie, “Captain America: Brave New World”, Anthony Mackie – famed for portraying Sam Wilson/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – encountered a comparable situation. This actor, set to reappear in “Avengers: Doomsday”, had earlier disclosed the stringent security precautions Marvel Studios applied regarding the script for “Captain America 4”. These measures included the requirement of a password to access a particular website where he met someone who accompanied him while he read the script from a computer.

The secrecy surrounding Marvel Studios’ film “Captain America: Brave New World” was particularly intense as it was the studio’s initial release for the year 2025. The movie, marking Anthony Mackie’s debut as Captain America, has earned $197 million in North America and Canada, and an additional $211 million internationally, bringing its global total to $409 million, edging closer to its rumored break-even point of $425 million, but still far from last year’s billion-dollar milestones set by “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.” The upcoming releases on the schedule include “Thunderbolts*” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” scheduled for July 25, 2025, which is part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with “Avengers: Doomsday” on May 1, 2026, an unnamed Spider-Man sequel on July 24, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027.
