Looks like Professor X in Marvel Rivals won’t be in a Wheelchair

There were whispers circulating that Professor X might also become a playable character in Marvel Rivals, given that Magneto already is.

Although there’s yet to be an announcement about a playable version of Professor X, the unveiling of Krakoa does suggest his presence in this particular universe; however, unlike in some other depictions, he is not confined to a wheelchair.

Welcome to Krakoa

In addition to introducing Emma Frost and Ultron as playable characters, Season 2 will also unveil a new location – Krakoa, the mutant sanctuary. This map is adorned with statues that depict significant figures in mutant history, such as Charles Xavier, who is known as Professor X among others.

As a gamer, I’ve just learned that I’m one of four statues scattered across Krakoa – the others are Storm, Magneto, and Emma Frost. In the animated X-Men ’97 series, Krakoa had statues too, but they only depicted Professor X and Magneto back then.

Could a Playable Xavier be Coming?

There’s been chatter for quite some time now about the possibility of Professor X appearing in Marvel Rivals, leaving fans speculating whether his character will still be confined to a wheelchair or if he’ll be depicted as ambulatory in this fresh interpretation.

If the character Xavier who can play in the game is indeed the one appearing, it’s logical to assume he would reside on Krakoa. This is because, as portrayed in the comics, Krakoa has the unique ability to facilitate the rebirth of mutants, and the magical aspects of these comic book stories have enabled Xavier to receive a new body that enables him to walk.

Regarding his helmet, it’s designed to be a compact equivalent of Cerebro. Its main function was to locate mutants, but it also enhances Professor Xavier’s abilities, potentially making him more effective in combat situations. Whether he’ll become a playable character is yet to be determined; fans will have to stay tuned for updates.

The Krakoa map will be introduced when the second season begins for Marvel Rivals, starting on April 11. Currently, Rivals can be played on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5.
