What Happened To Morgan Jones In The Walking Dead?

In the universe of “The Walking Dead“, one of the initial individuals Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) encounters after waking up to discover a world turned chaotic due to the Wildfire virus that resurrects the dead in the pilot episode titled “Days Gone By”, is Morgan Jones, played by Lennie James. His character gained significant popularity not only in the original series but also led him to take the lead role in its offshoot series, “Fear the Walking Dead”.

Following Morgan and his boy Duane helping Rick recover, they embark on an ammunition mission together as father and son duo. They linger until mourning Morgan finds the strength to end his walker wife. However, his reluctance in Season 3’s “Clear” intensifies Morgan’s sorrowful “Walking Dead” storyline when the remaining bits of the woman attack her child, leaving Morgan isolated and mentally broken. As his mental condition worsens, Morgan’s path takes him to a cabin inhabited by a man named Eastman (John Carroll Lynch) and his goat, Tabitha, as depicted in “Here’s Not Here.” Previously a forensic psychiatrist, Eastman imprisons Morgan in a cell where he employs goat cheese, martial arts training (Aikido), and mind-body techniques from “The Art of Peace” to mend Morgan’s PTSD and instill pacifism.

As a dedicated fan, I found myself drawn back into the thrilling world of “The Walking Dead” during Season 5’s episode, “Conquer.” There, I witnessed the heartwarming reunion between Morgan and Rick. However, this joy was short-lived as our peaceful blacksmith was dragged into the fierce conflict between Alexandria’s crew and Negan’s Saviors. The relentless violence took a heavy toll on Morgan’s mental wellbeing.

By Season 8’s “Wrath,” his condition had deteriorated significantly. He started experiencing hallucinations and losing control, culminating in the difficult decision to abandon Alexandria and retreat to the Junkyard for a while. This marked not only the end of Morgan’s chapter in “The Walking Dead” but also the beginning of a new phase in his long odyssey on the open road. Eventually, he crossed over to “Fear the Walking Dead,” continuing his journey and facing new challenges ahead.

Morgan finds another family on a different show

On his next leg of the journey, Morgan, who deeply values his people in Alexandria, discovers a fresh group to bond with. After departing from “The Walking Dead,” he resurfaces in Texas during Season 4 of “Fear the Walking Dead” in the episode titled “What’s Your Story?” Here, he befriends gunfighter John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) and MRAP driver Althea (Maggie Grace). However, a confrontation unfolds when he comes face-to-face with Nick (Frank Dillane), Alicia (‎Alycia Debnam-Carey), Strand (Colman Domingo), and Luciana (Danay Garcia).

Following his new friendship with the Clark family group, currently residing within a baseball stadium, Morgan initially plans to return to Alexandria. Yet, he continues to stay once the group pledges to assist others through a semi-truck supply system and Althea’s video recordings. In Season 5’s episode “The Hurt That Will Happen,” Morgan encounters pregnant survivor Grace (played by Karen David), with whom he develops a romantic relationship. Tragically, Grace loses her baby; however, they decide to take care of an orphaned child named Mo during the nuclear missile threat in Season 6’s finale, “The Beginning.

In the aftermath of the disaster and Strand’s rule as a dictator, Mo, Morgan, and Grace manage to survive. However, tragedy strikes when baby Mo is kidnapped by Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and taken to PADRE, where she is rechristened Wren in the finale of Season 7. For several years that follow, Grace remains with PADRE, secretly planning their escape with Morgan and Mo. Unfortunately, Grace passes away before they can leave. She is buried at Eastman’s cabin. Morgan and his now-preteen daughter (Zoey Merchant) then embark on a journey back to Alexandria, where Morgan hopes to reconnect with Rick’s group, hinting at the long-awaited double crossover that fans have eagerly anticipated for years.
