Divisive Hulu Series ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Unveils Season 2 First Look

The intriguing series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” produced by Hulu, is coming back for another season this spring. Hulu has shared the initial images for the drama, which centers around nine individuals from diverse backgrounds who visit a tranquil retreat for a 10-day wellness program run by Nicole Kidman’s character, Masha Dmitrichenko, who is in charge of the resort. In addition to Kidman, the new season will feature an ensemble cast including Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, Lena Olin, Christine Baranski, Henry Golding, and Dolly de Leon.

This second season finds the group of nine unfamiliar individuals journeying to the Austrian Alps. Not just the scenic views will change for viewers, as Nicole Kidman’s character Masha is sporting a fresh new appearance. In an interview with Vanity Fair about Masha’s Season 2 wardrobe, actress Kidman from ‘Babygirl’ revealed:

She transforms and adjusts. She doesn’t identify with her physical form in the traditional sense; instead, it serves as a gateway, a tool, or a diversion.

Below are some images that offer a sneak peek into Masha and several other new cast members for the upcoming season of our series. Notable additions to the second season include Mark Strong, who starred in 1917, Maisie Richardson-Sellers from The Kissing Booth 2, Aras Aydın from Cherry Season, Lucas Englander known for Transatlantic, and King Princess, making her acting debut.

The second season’s logline reads:

Nine individuals who have never met before receive an invitation from enigmatic guru Masha Dmitrichenko (played by Kidman) for a life-changing wellness retreat nestled in the Austrian Alps. Throughout seven days, she pushes them to their limits. Can they persevere? Will she? Masha is prepared to explore unconventional methods to facilitate healing for all participants, herself included.

Why ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ First Season Missed the Mark

Originally airing as a miniseries, Nine Perfect Strangers unexpectedly received a second season renewal. Despite boasting an illustrious cast including Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Asher Keddie, Samara Weaving, Melvin Gregg, Tiffany Boone, Manny Jacinto, Grace Van Patten, Regina Hall, and Bobby Cannavale, and an engaging plotline, the first season of Nine Perfect Strangers garnered mixed reviews. Adapted from Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name, the Hulu series faced criticism from both viewers and critics for its pacing problems and certain dramatic elements that emerged towards the end of the series. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a 59% rating, narrowly surpassed by its audience score of 60%.

I, for one, am thrilled about the return of the exceptionally gifted Catherine O’Hara to our television screens in the upcoming second season. Known for her side-splitting Emmy-winning portrayal of Alexis Rose in the cherished “Schitt’s Creek,” she later left an indelible impression with her performance as Allison McRoberts in the brief yet impactful series, “Kevin Can Fk Himself.”

In this dark dramedy, Catherine showcased her versatility by playing a sitcom wife who grew weary of her husband’s misbehavior. The series skillfully blended comedy and drama, offering a glimpse into Catherine’s remarkable range. I eagerly anticipate the captivating performance she will undoubtedly bring to “Nine Perfect Strangers.

The second season of “Nine Perfect Strangers” premieres on Hulu on May 21 with two initial episodes. For UK viewers, the first season can be found on Prime Video and the second season will debut there a day later, on May 22. In total, season 2 will feature eight episodes.
