Mizutsune Complete Fight Guide For Monster Hunter Wilds

Update 1 for Monster Hunter Wilds has added a variety of fresh activities in the game. Among them are Arena quests, High-Rank Zho Shia, but what really stands out is the introduction of the Leviathan beast, Mizutsune.

Apart from slaying it, you can also cultivate this creature and harvest its components to fashion unique weapons and armor for enhancing your character even more. For those seeking efficient methods to defeat this beast swiftly, this tutorial is designed to simplify the hunt for you.

How To Unlock Mizutsune

Because Mizutsune is included in Title Update One, it won’t feature in the main story quest, making it challenging for players to find the hunt. To initiate the hunt, you should first encounter Kanya in the Scarlet Forest.

She’ll inform you of an issue because something has been consuming the fish, causing a scarcity for the Wudwud. This incident will activate the “Spirit in the Moonlight” mission, which is the hunt for the Mizutsune in this scenario.

To complete Kanya’s initial fishing mission titled “Fishing: Life,” which is a prerequisite for the Mizutsune quest, you are required to do so.

Following your victory over the monster, an additional quest called “Bubbling Crimson Flowers Quest” (Optional) becomes accessible, granting you multiple chances to battle the monster again. Moreover, there’s a chance that a Tempered Mizutsune will appear on your map, offering extra incentives such as Artian weapon materials and Decorations.

Mizutsune Strengths and Weaknesses

These are the weaknesses and strengths for Mizutsune.

Weak Points
  • Mouth (Weak Point)
  • Claws (Breakable x2)
  • Head (Breakable x2)
Resistant Points
  • Neck
  • Torso
  • Dorsal Fin (Breakable)
  • Tail (Severable)
Element/Ailment Weakness
  • Ice
  • Thunder
  • Dragon
Element/Ailment Resistance
  • Immunity to Water
  • Immune to Sonic Bomb
Best Weapon Damage
  • Slashing
  • Bludgeoning
  • Pierce

In simpler terms, when facing the Mizutsune, remember that Thunder is an especially potent element to use. Ice can also be quite effective, but if you have a choice among Thunder, Dragon, and Ice, opt for either Thunder or Dragon, as they are more advantageous in this scenario.

During the battle, it’s crucial to concentrate on attacking the head and neck area, as these are more susceptible to damage. If you aim to harm its tail, opt for a Slashing or Piercing weapon would be ideal. For the rest of the body, inflicting blunt force will yield significant results.

Best Equipment To Fight Mizutsune

Best Recommended Weapons
  • Dimensius (Artian Long Sword)
  • Stahlrecht (Gore Magala Long Sword)
Best Recommended Armor
  • Gore Magala
  • Arkveld
  • Guardian Ebony Odogaron

In terms of the weapon you should rely on when facing Mizutsune, the Long Sword is an excellent option. Forge an Artian Long Sword, emphasizing Attack and Thunder attributes, which will significantly simplify the battle. If that’s not possible, another choice would be the Tonitrus Clairblade, known as the “Radiant Long Sword.” The Long Sword provides a good blend of offense and defense, thanks to its high damage output and agile maneuvers, making it ideal for subduing this monster.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve found myself grappling with an intriguing challenge when wielding the Rey Dau Long Sword: Its base affinity for critical hits is rather modest, making it trickier to score those game-changing critical strikes.

When it comes to choosing armor, it’s wiser to opt for a high offensive strategy. This can be accomplished by using the Gore Magala’s armor set in conjunction with Arkveld and Guardian Ebony Odogaron’s pieces. Gore Magala’s armor gives you Frenzy, which, when cured, increases Affinity. To enhance this, consider adding a Sane Jewel to your armor setup for the Antivirus boost, which further amplifies Affinity. Arkveld’s armor provides Weakness Exploit, and with Guardian Ebony Odogaron’s pieces, you receive Burst, which enhances Elemental builds.

As a gamer, I love how seamlessly the abilities on this armor set complement my Long Sword. From Antivirus to Weakness Exploit, and Burst, it’s like they were designed for each other!

Mizutsune – Fight Breakdown And Moves

In Update 1, Mizutsune won’t have a Low-Rank version available. Instead, you’ll need to reach Hunter Rank 21 before you can engage with this monster. While Mizutsune isn’t incredibly challenging, it might still be a bit tough for beginners. However, if you’ve previously faced off against Arkveld and Gore Magala, both of which are more difficult, you should find Mizutsune manageable.

Initially, Mizutsune predominantly uses its ability to emit Bubbles across the battlefield. These bubbles can push you back, and they also cause a condition called Bubbleblight which makes it harder for you to walk without slipping. During combat with this monster, the area will be filled with these Bubbles, so you’ll need to evade them effectively.

You can pop the bubbles with your weapons, so if you’re having trouble getting to the monster, feel free to use your weapon to burst them instead.

Furthermore, Mizutsune sometimes discharges a 180-degree water blast, causing Waterblight and knocking you down, dealing substantial damage, particularly if it’s the tempered variant of the creature. However, as it initiates the blast, there will be an opportunity for you to swiftly move behind the monster, thereby entirely avoiding the attack.

As a devoted admirer, I must warn fellow enthusiasts about one particularly devastating maneuver from Miuztsune: its tail slam. This move involves a swift vertical spin, followed by a crushing impact of its tail onto the ground. It’s a move that can deal significant damage, and if you’re facing the Tempered version, beware! A single hit is enough to send you packing. The tricky part is, there’s no easy way to dodge this attack. The instant you see the spin, prepare either to block or use your weapon’s evasive move to avoid being toppled by the assault. Mastering the timing takes practice, but with perseverance, we shall conquer!

In Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Soulseer Mizutsune was a distinct form. But in Wilds, this form is part of the regular Mizutsune monster. During the standard battle, its Soulseer ability triggers when you break its mouth. However, if you encounter the Tempered version, it automatically enters the Soulseer mode without needing to break its mouth first.

Ultimately, when I manage to shatter Mizutsune’s jaw, it transforms into Soulseer mode, where its visage emanates a brilliant blue light. In this form, it releases swarms of blue Bubbles that can infect me with Fireblight. These Bubbles are incredibly damaging, and I must evade them regardless of the current state of the battle.

Additionally, the beast possesses a charging attack where it rushes towards you while gliding over its bubbles. This maneuver is relatively simple to avoid by simply walking around its trajectory. Yet, be cautious as the creature may link this move with its spin-tailed slam, so always keep a close eye on it.
