MobLand Cast REVEALS Shocking Production Secrets

In February 2025, we finally discovered that the series previously known as “The Associate” and starring Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, among others, was named “MobLand“. Interestingly, it was announced in October 2024 that this show would premiere on March 30 on Paramount+. However, only on March 17 did we learn that Janet McTeer had joined the cast. Remarkably, filming for MobLand actually concluded on March 26, just four days before its debut. It seems that scripts were being written as the series was being filmed, and the cast mentioned in interviews that they were still catching their breaths during production. For some actors, this rapid pace seemed to enhance their performances.

Tom Hardy describes the exhilaration that arises from working on freshly published material, much like a 24-hour play, where he collaborates with brilliant minds who rapidly flip through pages. This is how he explains the fast-paced production of “MobLand”. In this role, Hardy portrays Harry Da Souza, the key fixer for a criminal family. He further mentioned:

You don’t have much time to get settled into each new scene as things move quickly. However, during this process, you’re developing characters within a storyline where you grasp the plot and its direction, or in certain aspects, anticipate where it might lead. This approach to filming is fascinating. Since I joined in July, the script has undergone numerous revisions, with Ronan initially involved in four out of ten episodes. After that, there were major changes, and we just wrapped up filming last week.

Paddy Considine Wanted More Time

Contrarily, not every actor embraces that method, like Paddy Considine, portraying Kevin, one of the offspring of crime lords played by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. Kevin’s son could be implicated in something that might trigger a full-blown gang war. Considine delivers an impressive performance, marked by palpable anxiety, yet this tension was partially due to the hurried filming process. Considine himself shared:

In the process of creating characters or navigating a storyline, everyone is accustomed to making adjustments and dealing with last-minute alterations. However, for me, it was challenging initially as the story was evolving rapidly, and I had to work hard to preserve Kevin’s narrative continuity. This uncertainty was somewhat concerning, requiring additional effort on my part. As for the changes, I just had to wait for each episode to arrive so I could understand the direction of the story and plan accordingly.

Considine admitted, “I didn’t completely grasp his character development, truth be told,” yet his screen presence always added depth to each scene. “It was just vague discussions and then we’d wait for scripts to come in. However, this uncertainty fueled our enthusiasm on set and kept us alert. We were continually exchanging ideas with [writer] Jez Butterworth, sending notes back and forth. But at the same time, it was crucial to understand one’s character trajectory. For instance, during my stint on House of the Dragon, I knew I would be written out in episode eight, but I had a well-defined arc that made me feel secure. So, in essence, I was content with it. I knew where his journey was headed, almost from the start.

“I Knew What I Was Signing Up For, But I Also Didn’t”

In MobLand, Paddy Considine portrays Kevin, a character married to Bella, played by Lara Pulver. Pulver remarked that due to the rushed nature of filming the series, it fostered greater collaboration between the cast members. Since scripts for future episodes were still being developed, the actors became involved in script modifications, thereby influencing the course their characters would take. Pulver explained, “It was a collaborative effort,” implying that none of them knew much beyond the first few episodes, so they couldn’t plan ahead. The quick pace and shooting style made it very dynamic. Pulver further added:

As soon as we were hired for this role, there was barely any gap between receiving the job offer and actually getting started. We jumped right in from the get-go, and I believe it has had a significant impact on our performance. I suspect that as we become more familiar with our characters during the early episodes, this understanding has influenced Jez’s writing and character development.

According to Pulver, the scale and amount of content in this show is truly immense, isn’t it? It’s incredibly large-scale as a production, he remarked. I believe there was a great deal to cover, like adding depth and richness, which I think speaks volumes about the ensemble, both on screen and off. I think everyone has brought their A-game to this project, and it’s been enjoyable for all of us to participate. For another cast member, Mandeep Dhillon (portraying Seraphina, Pierce Brosnan’s adult daughter from a woman other than his wife), the experience was almost like being both an audience member and an actor simultaneously. Dhillon elaborated on this.

I’ve truly appreciated receiving each episode and diving in, asking myself ‘What’s her next move? What’s her next move?’ It’s kept me intrigued, and I must say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. While I had an idea of what I was getting into initially, there were also unexpected elements. As the series progresses, it’s become more captivating. Accompanied by Seraphina, I feel like I’m embarking on a fascinating journey, and I can’t wait to delve deeper.
