Glen Powell is enthusiastic about taking on the role in the latest rendition of Stephen King’s novel, The Running Man, and I can’t wait to watch him. Earlier this year, Powell was busy shooting the upcoming film by Edgar Wright in London, and a sneak peek of the footage was unveiled at CinemaCon. The movie is both an adaptation of a book and a modern update of the 1987 film with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. Interestingly, Powell contacted Schwarzenegger to seek his approval for the project, which I find quite nerve-wracking to even imagine anyone doing that.
In an interview with People, Powell discussed his new condiment line, Smash Kitchen, as well as the upcoming movie remake of “The Running Man”. This action-packed film, featuring Coleman Domingo and Josh Brolin, is eagerly anticipated. The project boasts a talented director at its helm. Regarding Arnold Schwarzenegger’s feelings towards this remake, Powell clarified that he’s fully supportive of it.
Arnold granted us his approval. Patrick Schwarzenegger, who is one of my good friends, served as an intermediary when I requested a conversation with Arnold. It has been quite some time since we last worked together on The Expendables in Bulgaria. We’re looking forward to presenting Arnold with a unique and enjoyable gift from the movie within the next couple of weeks. I’m really looking forward to seeing him again!
It’s not surprising at all that Patrick Schwarzenegger and Glen Powell are friends, given that they are around the same age and both on the rise in the Hollywood scene.
Overall, Powell’s relationship with the younger Schwarzenegger and their work together on Expendables 3 likely made it more straightforward to seek Arnold’s approval. It’s great to know that the Terminator actor was receptive to this request. Powell is expected to bring a distinct vibe to the character of Ben Richards, which I believe is advantageous. Coupled with Edgar Wright’s exceptional directorial talents, this film should offer a fresh take compared to its 1987 predecessor.

Besides Arnold Schwarzenegger’s endorsement, “The Running Man” has been scheduled for release in 2025. Director Edgar Wright has noted that Powell’s acting is reminiscent of Bruce Willis in “Die Hard,” which indicates a high level of praise for Powell’s performance as Ben Richards. Following his successful year in 2024, audience members are eager to see more of Powell’s charm and charisma on the big screen. If he continues on this upward trend, there is no doubt that Powell could establish himself as a leading action star, much like Arnold Schwarzenegger did during the 1980s.
Look forward to catching Glen Powell in “The Running Man” when it premieres in theaters on November 7, 2025. In the interim, don’t forget to catch his top movies and TV roles. Meanwhile, for those who want a taste of the original, you can stream the Arnold Schwarzenegger version of “The Running Man” right now with a Paramount+ subscription.
