As a passionate admirer of FromSoftware, I wasn’t expecting their signature dark and gothic style to mingle with the delightful world of Nintendo, especially for an exclusive title on the rumored Switch 2. Yet, here we are, bracing ourselves for “The Duskbloods,” a collaboration that seems as unexpected as it is intriguing!
Information on The Duskbloods remains scarce at this point, however, director Hidetaka Miyazaki has shared some insights into the playable characters and their significance within the game’s universe.
The Bloodsworn
Well, the world of Duskbloods is a dark, mystical place filled with ancient secrets waiting to be uncovered. The Bloodsworn are warriors who’ve made a pact with the very essence of the land itself, granting them unique powers and abilities. They stand on the precipice of a war that could tip the balance between light and darkness, and their choices will shape the destiny of this world.
The game’s protagonists, or characters controlled by the player, are known as ‘Bloodsworn’. The Bloodsworn are a group whose members have achieved super-human abilities through the power of special blood. As a general concept, they’re similar to vampires, but they are not portrayed as the horrifying monsters you might associate with traditional vampirism.
The developers drew inspiration from various sources featuring vampires, finding intriguing ‘romantic elements’ along the way, which they then integrated into their creation known as Bloodsworn, a game that doesn’t primarily revolve around vampires.
First Blood
In this game, the characters known as the Bloodsworn are fighting over a prize named ‘First Blood,’ which appears during an apocalyptic event known as ‘The Twilight of Humanity.’ Interestingly, these Bloodsworn don’t actually belong to the same timeframe and are selected from different points in time to take part in this competition for the acquisition of First Blood.
Miyazaki clarifies that the Blood in this game is symbolic rather than literal. He expounds, “Blood represents one of the game’s fundamental themes: the history it embodies, the power it transmits, the destinies it shapes, and the mark of those who have transcended their human limitations.
It’s all about the Vibes
As a gamer, I find myself often engrossed in the immersive world of FromSoft games, where the captivating gameplay and stunning aesthetics tend to overshadow the narrative at times. Concepts like ‘Twilight of Humanity’ and ‘First Blood’ might leave some players puzzled, yet they add an intriguing layer to the lore that deepens the gaming experience for those who seek it.
Regardless of what might be true, it’s distinctively reminiscent of FromSoftware’s style, and many fans are eagerly anticipating being captivated by the lore in the same way they’re excited about the game itself. Until there’s more information to share, enthusiasts can only patiently wait for the next update.
The Duskbloods is expected to come out for the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime next year.
