Andor” Creator Reveals How “The Mandalorian

Regardless of some fans trying to create a rivalry between “Star Wars” shows like “Andor” and “The Mandalorian“, their creators appear to be quite supportive of each other. When “Andor” debuted on Disney+ in September 2022, it garnered praise from critics and fans for its unique take on the franchise, setting it apart from the more family-friendly and fan-service series like “The Mandalorian”. Although “The Mandalorian” attracted a larger audience, “Andor” received unprecedented critical acclaim. However, this notion of competition between the two shows is merely a product of fan speculation, as the creator of “Andor” has only expressed positive sentiments towards the team behind “The Mandalorian” and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

As a collaborator on the “Andor” project, I’ve had the pleasure of working with the incredibly supportive team at Lucasfilm and Disney. Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger, and the rest have been instrumental in bringing our vision to life. The success of “The Mandalorian” undeniably paved the way for “Andor.”

I must also express my admiration for Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the brilliant minds behind “The Mandalorian.” Any rumors of creative discord or rivalry between us are nothing more than baseless speculation. We’re all working together to create something truly special in the Star Wars universe.

In simple terms, our project was securely supported at every step along the way. Kathy Kennedy, Lucasfilm, Bob Iger, the audience, The Mandalorian, and even Baby Yoda himself were all behind us. We had an incredible team backing us up. The success of The Mandalorian provided a strong foundation for our show to grow. It’s their achievements that made it all possible – without them, there would be no Andor. Some people try to create conflicts between us and Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni online, but the truth is, we couldn’t have done this without them. They gave us the strength to push forward.

‘Andor’ and ‘The Mandalorian’ Were Never Against One Another

Online fan communities sometimes exaggerate conflicts between creators even when they don’t exist, as in the case of James Gunn and Zack Snyder who are friends and admirers of each other’s work. However, some parts of these fandoms seem intent on stirring up conflict for no reason. This phenomenon can also be observed in discussions about shows like The Mandalorian and Andor. Each show offers a unique perspective within the Star Wars universe, but they are frequently compared and contrasted in ways that pit them against each other. For instance, some criticize Andor for not being “Star Wars” enough, while others accuse The Mandalorian of not advancing the Star Wars legacy and catering to fans’ expectations. It seems that praising one show often requires putting down the other.

In numerous aspects, the series “Andor” and “The Mandalorian” can peacefully coexist, demonstrating the versatility of “Star Wars” as a brand. It’s beneficial that it encompasses various storylines within its broader universe, appealing to diverse fanbases. The second season of “Andor” will wrap up on Disney+ on Apr. 22, 2025. As for “The Mandalorian“, instead of a fourth TV season, it’s transitioning to the big screen, with its film debuting in theaters on May 22, 2026, marking the franchise’s first movie since “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.
