David Corenswet Reveals Krypto: Superman’s Adorable Yet Mischievous Dog!

James Gunn’s version of Superman, showcased at CinemaCon, continues to generate excitement. While David Corenswet as Man of Steel was prominent, it was Krypto, the snowy canine sidekick, who seemed to capture the limelight. Fans are already smitten with the dog, but Corenswet recently mentioned that the energetic pup might not always be well-behaved. Despite this, my affection for the loyal companion remains undiminished.

At CinemaCon, I had a chance to sit down with director James Gunn and the cast of Superman, including David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, for an exclusive chat with Fandango. In a clip shared on X (previously known as Twitter), Corenswet opened up about Supes’ beloved pet and shared his thoughts on the relationship between these two characters: the Man of Steel and his furry companion.

In simpler terms, Superman is caring for Krypto, not the other way around. Their relationship resembles a foster situation since Superman is looking after this dog. Generally, people are fond of dogs, including Superman. However, as director James Gunn puts it, Krypto is the most problematic superpowered dog in existence. He frequently causes destruction to the Fortress of Solitude and goes hunting wild animals, always finding himself in trouble and ignoring commands. Despite their strong bond, the love between them is overshadowed by more hassle than benefit.

Without a doubt, Clark Kent seems to be in for quite an adventure with his lively pet dog. In the recently released footage, we see Kal-El, who appears injured, summon Krypto for aid in returning to their fortress. At first, the powerful canine seems more interested in play than help, jumping on his owner before finally complying with his command. The scene presents a mix of playfulness and pain.

Ever since fans got their first glimpse at Krypto and director James Gunn shared his emotional motivation for this portrayal of the character, there has been a great deal of eagerness among fans to witness Krypto in action. Although Krypto has had numerous appearances in comics and animated films, he hasn’t yet graced the big screen in a live-action DC movie. Given the actor’s comments about Corenswet, it’s easy to understand how Gunn’s personal dog, Ozu, may have played a role in shaping the character.

Despite his occasional mischief, I can’t help but adore this furry fellow with a soft spot for him. It seems like he’s got a good heart hidden behind those playful actions. Honestly, the amusing chaos he stirs up, as described by David Corenswet, is something I find irresistible. Interestingly, many other fans share my sentiment towards Krypto, defending his character. In summary, I found it heartening to see fellow supporters rally behind this doggo.

  • Or maybe stop flying around the world for once and give Krypto some attention 😩 – @chriscolombus46
  • There is no worst dog David!!! Only worst Dog Parent. Well its time to buckle up and teach Krypto some rules. – @cinemalova
  • Like wtf… Krypto be lonely and you calling him stubborn 😭😭 – @NoriNathan

As someone who’s learned from experiencing the emotional rollercoaster of “Marley & Me,” I can certainly suggest that Clark might find it beneficial to take on more responsibility as a pet owner. After all, it’s often those pets that give us the most trouble, like Krypto, that we miss the most when they’re no longer around. And while Krypto may cause a bit of mess inside the Fortress of Solitude, his lovable nature makes him worth every little hassle.

Beyond the adorable attention-grabber, there appears to be plenty to anticipate in the upcoming Superman. Not only are there grand action scenes but also appearances by well-known DC characters that have me excited. It’s hard not to sense that James Gunn is pouring his heart into this project. This is understandable since the success of this film could shape the course of the DC Universe in the future.

We’ll find out what happens in the story when Superman flies onto screens on July 11, as part of the 2025 movie lineup. If you’re eager to witness Krypto’s adorable antics on the grandest scale, you might want to reserve your IMAX seats once they become available.
