On “The Voice,” singers take a significant risk when they decide to cover one of the coaches’ songs, as the mentors are so accustomed to what the song should sound like that an alternate interpretation can be challenging for them. In the 2025 TV schedule, one of Michael Bublé’s team members bravely accepted this challenge during the Knockouts round. Divighn showcased some daring dance moves while performing “Harder to Breathe” before Adam Levine, and I was disappointed by how things unfolded for him.
Divighn, a 33-year-old singer hailing from California, delivered an exceptional rendition of the 2002 hit song, incorporating his own dance moves reminiscent of Mick Jagger. This captivating performance garnered a standing ovation from none other than Adam Levine, the lead vocalist of Maroon 5. Initially, Adam Levine expressed tension upon learning Divighn’s song selection for the competition, but following the Knockout round, he acknowledged:
“I must admit, I was under pressure when I found out about your song choice. However, after your performance, I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed.
Hey Divighn, your music selection is outstanding, dude! Frankly, I often feel apprehensive when others perform our songs because it makes me jittery. You see, I’m quite attached to them. But what you did with the song was impressive – you added something unique that wasn’t my usual approach. The way you danced and maintained a strong, powerful vocal performance at the same time was truly remarkable. That’s pretty impressive!
It seems that Adam Levine appreciated the performance more because Divighn presented it in a unique way, as you’ll notice in the following: (or “It appears that Adam Levine enjoyed the performance more due to Divighn’s distinct interpretation, which is evident in the excerpt below.”)
Just as fans were thrilled to see Adam Levine back on “The Voice” after a decade-long absence, I found Divighn’s unique take on the song refreshingly different from the original. Consequently, I was disappointed when it came down to Michael Bublé making his selection.
In a fierce competition, Divighn faced off against teammate Kaiya Hamilton. During the Battles, Hamilton delivered an unexpected victory, and her rendition of Alessia Cara’s “Here” was undeniably impressive, as Michael Bublé stated while announcing her as the winner. The coach of The Voice conceded that he erred by placing them together, and I think it’s fair to say Hamilton displayed a stronger vocal performance.
Unfortunately, Adam Levine had no more chances to “steal” Divighn for his team during Season 27, resulting in Divighn’s elimination. Michael Bublé didn’t provide the artist with his contact information or any other form of assistance. It’s frustrating that his bold move seemed successful initially, as Levine appreciated it, but ultimately proved unsuccessful since he was sent home afterwards.
This season, numerous contestants have attempted to conquer the coaches’ chosen songs. Angie Rey secured a spot on Kelsea Ballerini’s team by performing “Penthouse,” while Grace-Miller Moody charmed all four coaches with her rendition of Adam Levine’s “Sunday Morning.” Unfortunately, Jonny Rey didn’t receive any chair turns when he sang Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.
I truly enjoy watching artists push boundaries, particularly when their performances are exceptionally original and successful, like Divighn’s was. However, The Voice coaches have challenging choices to make. These decisions won’t become any simpler as the Knockout rounds progress. Tune in on Monday, April 14, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC or stream it the next day on Peacock.
