Recently, I’ve been experiencing a sense of nostalgia and have spent the last few weeks revisiting some of Michael Bay‘s iconic films, such as The Rock and Armageddon. Upon rewatching these classic action films and apocalyptic disaster movies, I’ve found a recurring theme in Bay’s diverse filmography. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not his affection for explosions, grungy filters, or the well-known 360-degree shot that ties his work together.
Instead, we’re discussing JFK, specifically John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States who was tragically assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. But how does a man who passed away 30 years before Michael Bay made his directorial debut tie into one of the most fashionable directors of the ’90s? Allow me to clarify…
I First Noticed Michael Bay’s Fixation With The JFK Assassination While Watching The Rock
Re-watching “The Rock” was a thrilling, zany, and generally delightful adventure. Nicolas Cage gives an exquisitely flamboyant performance as Stanley Goodspeed, while Sean Connery shines brilliantly in his role as John Mason. The action sequences are simply spectacular. However, the ending, or more specifically, the last shot of the movie, seems to have slipped my memory following the heroic rescue by Goodspeed and Mason.
As they prepare to part, Mason advises Goodspeed that if he’s looking for an adventure, Fort Walton in Kansas could be the place. He then gives him a note detailing the location of a hidden treasure. And guess what that treasure is? It’s none other than a microfilm containing evidence about who assassinated JFK over three decades ago.

Next, I Noticed The Conspiracy Came Up Again In Armageddon
A couple of weeks passed and I screened “Armageddon” for my children. To my surprise, I found another JFK reference hidden within this 1998 catastrophe movie. In a scene where Harry Stamper (played by Bruce Willis) outlines the demands of his crew before they embark on their space mission to save Earth by splitting an enormous asteroid in half, one of the drillers also requests that they be informed about who actually took down JFK after the mission and no longer having to pay taxes.
Back in the mid-to-late 1990s, discussions about the JFK assassination were widespread, but I found myself unable to suppress my laughter when contemplating Michael Bay’s fixation on this topic as the epitome of conspiracy theories.

And Who Appears In Transformers: Dark of the Moon? You Probably Already Know
2011’s “Dark of the Moon” may not have been the top Transformers film, but it was an enjoyable departure from its problematic 2009 predecessor. Interestingly enough, this exhilarating summer blockbuster even features a digital replica of President John F. Kennedy.
At the beginning of the film, upon discovering that an extraterrestrial spaceship from Cybertron had landed on the moon’s surface, Kennedy ordered a mission under the guise of putting humans on the moon. This secret operation served to investigate the alien craft. Despite being distinct from the other examples, it was just as exciting when this revelation occurred.

Michael Bay Even Made A Super Bowl Commercial Involving JFK
This year, numerous noteworthy commercials during Super Bowl LIX garnered global attention, among them was an advertisement by the Secret Service, brilliantly directed by Michael Bay. The extended version of this ad delves into the Secret Service’s rich history and its significant achievements throughout the years. It showcases various images of past presidents, such as John F. Kennedy, but unlike previous portrayals, it veers away from conspiracy theories and instead highlights his inspiring “Ask not what your country can do for you” speech. This is followed by a scene of JFK’s motorcade from the 1960 campaign.
I’m curious to discover if Michael Bay has a specific fascination with John F. Kennedy, or if it’s all coincidental. For now, I suppose I’ll continue enjoying his films…
