COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT Plasters the ASICS GEL-LYTE III 07 in Clashing Tartan

In their latest collaboration with ASICS for COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT, the Japanese label has moved beyond the subtle tones of recent launches, instead opting for a vibrant version of the ASICS Gel-Lyte III 07 adorned with intersecting tartan designs. A preview of this bold design was initially shown during the brand’s SS25 Paris Fashion Week catwalk show. The chaotic patterns echo the mismatched and overlapping checks characteristic of the collection.

In 2024, CDG chose monochromatic designs for the GEL-TERRAIN and GEL-NUNOBIKI, but the label founded by Rei Kawakubo is now returning to a more colorful interpretation of the GEL-LYTE III 07, which they previously redesigned in 2020. While preserving the original shape, the GEL-LYTE III 07 sports upper parts made in a full-color tartan pattern, arranged in various directions to create a patchwork effect. The tartan design is also applied to the midsoles through an overprint process, amplifying the vibrant pattern to its full potential.

Graphics on these shoes are subtly branded with a COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT logo on the midsole, GEL-LYTE III 07 label on the side, and an ASICS mark at the heel. To add contrast, the design concludes with white laces. The sneakers are available in two color schemes: one that sticks to classic men’s wardrobe colors, while the other showcases softer pastels like pink, purple, and aqua.

The collaboration between COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT and ASICS GEL-LYTE III 07 is currently available at selected retailers in Europe. At this point, there’s no official word on when it will be released in the United States.
