Marvel Rivals Has a ‘Blonde Woman’ Problem

To avoid any misunderstanding, let me clarify that this matter carries significant implications for the future stability of Marvel Rivals. Essentially, it might pose potential challenges down the line.

To clarify, this statement has nothing to do with making fun of all blondes worldwide. Instead, it’s about discussing an aspect related to Marvel Rivals design, rather than a shallow critique.

As the second season nears, Emma Frost is set to debut alongside the new location, Krakoa. There’s certainly a lot of excitement surrounding her – not only for her impressive looks, but also for her formidable powers. She can strangle enemies, hurl them into abysses, and manipulate minds with telepathy. These additions are undoubtedly exciting, but there is one concern: she’s another female character with blonde hair.

Marvel Rivals boasts an eclectic lineup drawn from the expansive Marvel universe, yet it appears NetEase might be overlooking a crucial aspect. This high-speed game demands visual coherence for optimal playability. Each character should have a unique visual signature. For instance, Rocket Raccoon, despite his miniature size, is instantly recognizable. The same goes for Groot and The Thing – you can identify them immediately by their appearance.

With Sue Storm, Tandy Bowen, and Emma Frost all present, it’s going to be quite challenging visually. If you prefer a term, let’s call it a difficulty in distinguishing individuals due to their similar appearances – being blonde women wearing white suits – during hectic team battles, especially when the action is intense and fast-paced.

Lucky for me, Dagger’s trusty sidekick Cloak helps me spot her clearly. However, Emma and Sue are a different story – they can blend together in the heat of combat. In tense moments as a Magneto player, I might accidentally unleash Meteor M on Emma, who’s out on the field, instead of Sue, who’s just hanging back in the corner.

If all three are using their default white skins in the same lobby, good luck telling them apart.

Great news! There are different costumes available that enhance their looks. The duo, Cloak and Dagger, really pop with the Twilight Duo skin. Emma Frost’s X-Revolution suit adds a striking black-and-white flair. And Sue Storm’s Malice skin provides her with a more unique look.

In future updates, it would be great if Marvel Rivals paid closer attention to their character designs, aiming for a more authentic comic book look, like a larger jacket for Emma, for instance. However, her current design in the game seems less extravagant than I had hoped.

I swear, if Ultron shows up with blonde hair, it’s over for me. (But I’d love to see it.)
