Sofia Carson’s ‘The Life List’ Tops Netflix Charts Globally

Sofia Carson, who starred alongside Taron Egerton in last year’s high-octane action thriller reminiscent of Die Hard titled Carry-On (one of Netflix’s biggest original movies in 2024), has transitioned from action to romance in her new film, The Life List. This romantic comedy, helmed by Adam Brooks, premiered on Netflix on March 28 and quickly climbed to the top of the streaming charts, maintaining its position as a number one trending movie for several days as more and more viewers seem to be adding it to their watchlists out of curiosity about the growing buzz.

Approximately a week since its debut, “The Life List” has soared to become one of the most watched movies globally on the streaming platform. As per FlixPatrol’s data as of April 8, 2025, it holds the number one spot in the Top 10 listings in an impressive 57 countries. In terms of global viewership, it has outperformed films like Jon Amiel’s “The Core” (2003), Vin Diesel’s superhero film “Bloodshot”, the action-thriller “Sniper: Rogue Mission”, and the canine-centric hit “Alpha”. These titles occupy positions 2 through 5 in Netflix’s worldwide Top 5 rankings.

Carson is rapidly gaining popularity on Netflix, with recent roles in “Purple Hearts” from 2022 and “Carry-On” from 2024. Both of these productions were streaming hits that attracted a large audience and made it onto Netflix’s list of all-time movies. The viewership for “Carry-On” has continued to climb since its release in December, now boasting a total of 172.1 million views over 344.1 million hours. Viewers are still captivated by the tale of a young TSA officer who is blackmailed into allowing a suspicious package on board a flight on Christmas Eve. In its first week, “Carry-On” amassed 42 million views, while “The Life List” gathered 24.4 million views, according to Netflix Tudum.

What Is ‘The Life List’ About?

As a cinephile, I must admit that while The Life List has undeniably made waves, it’s been met with a fair share of mixed opinions. On Rotten Tomatoes, it only managed to garner positive reviews from 47% of the critics. Some viewers felt that the movie’s narratives were somewhat conventional and foreseeable. Based on Lori Nelson Spielman’s novel, the film follows Alex Rose (played by Sofia Carson) as she sets off on a mission to accomplish her childhood bucket list at her mother’s request. Along the way, she unearths family mysteries, finds love, and rediscovers her true self in a touching, heartwarming tale that concludes with an unexpected yet poignant twist.

It appears that “The Life List” is striking a chord with regular viewers rather than critics, boasting an impressive 72% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. Despite some rocky execution, MovieWeb’s Greg Archer found the film captivating, commenting that “despite occasional changes in theme, tone, and storyline, ‘The Life List’ makes for an excellent family watch, particularly appealing to Gen Z viewers, who, as this movie suggests, might not fully grasp their yearning for genuine connections.” However, it has also sparked some people to end their relationships.
