Simu Liu, one of Marvel’s renowned actors, is set to reappear in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday“. The actor will once again embody the character Shang-Chi, following his appearance in the 2021 movie that bore his name. For years, fans have speculated about when they might see Shang-Chi on screen again or questioned if Marvel had overlooked him. However, Simu Liu has confirmed that plans for Shang-Chi’s return have been underway. Despite this, even he was taken aback by the impressive cast of Avengers: Doomsday.
On a recent episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show”, Simu Liu was questioned regarding his name being featured on a chair during Marvel’s extended five-hour casting announcement video for “Avengers: Doomsday”. With obvious enthusiasm for resuming work, Liu expressed: “Naturally, we’re thrilled to get back to what we love.” Given that he will be part of one of Marvel’s most anticipated films yet, Simu Liu was bound by confidentiality and could not reveal any details about the movie’s content, instead adding:
As a cinephile, I’ve got my fingers crossed for an upcoming film that promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. The secrecy surrounding this project is palpable, and I can’t reveal any details about it. What I am allowed to share is that I feel honored to have some role in this production, even if the identities of the other participants remain a mystery for now.
It seems that most Marvel actors are not privy to future MCU plot details due to two notoriously leaky actors – Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo. These actors have a history of spilling major MCU secrets, so the producers keep everyone in the dark to avoid spoilers. Liu humorously commented, “They wouldn’t tell us anything because of Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo ruining it for everyone.” As Liu himself didn’t know who else was involved in the movie, he too was surprised by the return of the X-Men. He admitted that he was equally taken aback.
When I learned that both Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart were set to appear, it was as if I had stumbled upon two of the most remarkable actors in history. That revelation left me quite astounded.
Will We Get ‘Shang-Chi 2’ After ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?
To numerous Marvel enthusiasts, it seemed as though Shang-Chi had been overlooked by Marvel Studios following his standalone film, since he hadn’t even been mentioned since then. However, it’s reassuring to know that the character has a future now. But, fans are eagerly awaiting information on whether and when a Shang-Chi sequel might be coming out.
Fans are eagerly anticipating his role in “Avengers: Doomsday” might spark a new installment. Assuming he makes it through the storyline of “Avengers: Doomsday” (with some online fans speculating that many main characters could perish at the hands of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom), there is still plenty of potential for developing Shang-Chi’s character and the lore associated with him within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The release date for “Avengers: Doomsday” has been set for May 2, 2026, and production has already commenced.
