Will it meet our expectations? While some have drawn comparisons to established franchises, “The Amateur” might not be the blockbuster hit the studio envisions, but for fans of Malek and the genre, it could exceed all hopes.

The overall sentiment so far is mostly favorable, echoing the early opinions that emerged online a week ago. However, some reviewers appear divided over the predictable narrative, which features Rami Malek as a former CIA coder seeking revenge after his wife’s death, played by Rachel Brosnahan, who is known for her role as Superman. An amateur, going by the name Charlie, methodically ticks off every item on his lethal task list, proving he may not be like James Bond or Jason Bourne, but he manages to achieve similar outcomes in the real-world test scenarios. However, this portrayal seems implausible as villains appear to conveniently align themselves for elimination. Critics might find it hard to believe, as they could easily spot plot inconsistencies like Swiss cheese. I chose to suspend my disbelief, root for the just cause, and enjoy the spy-themed gadgets along the way.
