Hershey’s Chocolate Movie in the Works, Apple TV+ Mocks It Like The Studio

Warning: minor SPOILERS for The Studio are ahead!

If you’ve been watching “The Studio” on Apple TV+ lately, just like me, you’re aware that the premiere of Seth Rogen’s latest series features a storyline about a film production company making a movie centered around an advertising mascot. In the show, Rogen’s character Matt Remick agrees to produce a Kool-Aid Man film in exchange for heading Continental Studios, which sets off… let’s discuss that another time. Interestingly enough, the real world news about a Hershey’s Chocolate movie aligns with this plot, and Apple playfully mirrored their in-show reaction to it.

Initially, let’s clarify that the movie named Hershey, contrary to expectations of an action-packed adventure like Jungle Cruise, will focus on the tale behind the establishment of the chocolate company, not featuring characters navigating a river made of chocolate or similar concepts. However, the Apple TV account chose to share this news with us through Kathryn Hahn’s character, Maya Mason.

Speaking as a cinephile, I’m confident she could charm Hershey’s executives effortlessly. In fact, she conceived an enticing pitch for a Kool-Aid Man film on The Studio without a single plot point, and Bryan Cranston’s Griffin Mill was smitten by it. Moreover, a movie centered around the inception of Hershey’s is far more appealing compared to Matt Remick’s attempt to reimagine the Kool-Aid movie as a Martin Scorsese-directed feature about the Jonestown massacre.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Seth Rogen has disclosed his Apple TV+ series has already ruffled some feathers among studio executives. However, it’s the captivating tale behind one of his episodes inspired by the Golden Globes that truly piques my interest!

Concerning the upcoming movie titled Hershey, Variety reveals that it features Finn Wittrock as Milton Hershey and Alexandra Daddario as his wife, Kitty. Milton is known for establishing The Hershey Company in 1894. As a couple, they initiated the Hershey Industrial School in 1909, providing education and housing to orphaned and underprivileged children. In 1925, Milton moved most of his wealth into the Milton Hershey School Trust, 20 years before his death. Additionally, they constructed entertainment venues, recreational facilities, and public transportation for their workers in the town that sprang up around their chocolate factory.

Mark Waters, known for his work on ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Freaky Friday’, will take the helm for the upcoming movie titled ‘Hershey’. Filming is slated to commence in May, though a distributor has yet to be secured. The team aims to release the film in 2026. Here’s what Waters had to express in an official statement:

[Mark Waters’ statement]

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming biopic on Milton Hershey titled ‘Hershey.’ Unlike many wealthy men of his era, Milton defied convention by sharing his prosperity with the working class and community. At the heart of this film lies a captivating love story between Milton and Catherine Hershey, whose bond inspired one of his most significant legacies – the establishment of the Milton Hershey School. I’m beyond excited to see Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario bring these visionary characters to life on screen. They embodied a passion for making the world a better place, a timeless story that resonates deeply with today’s audiences, offering an inspiring tale of love and legacy.

Let’s observe how Hershey performs with viewers next year, but for now, it’s a relief that whoever manages the Apple TV X account shared that clip from The Studio during the announcement. Don’t miss new installments of Seth Rogen’s series every Wednesday on the 2025 TV lineup.
