Russell Brand’s ‘Arthur’ Outtakes to Be Used in Sexual Assault Case Evidence

It appears that Warner Bros. Discovery is planning to submit behind-the-scenes footage from Russell Brand’s 2011 movie, Arthur, as part of his sexual assault case in the United States. In a recent court hearing, their lawyer, Patrick Lamparello, stated that they have approximately eight hours of outtake footage, which could potentially be more. This disclosure comes at a time when Brand is under criminal investigation in the UK, having been charged by London’s Metropolitan Police on April 4, 2025, with multiple sexual offenses spanning from 1999 to 2005 and allegedly involving four women.

The UK probe against the brand involves accusations of rape, indecent assault, oral sex without consent, and two instances of sexual assault. This investigation was initiated by the UK police in the year 2023 due to multiple complaints. However, the brand has publicly refuted all these allegations, expressing his gratitude for fan support and maintaining that his relationships were consensual. The brand is set to attend a preliminary hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on May 2, 2025.

The footage involving Arthur is significant for a lawsuit filed in New York’s Suffolk County in 2023, brought forth by an anonymous woman (Jane Doe). She accuses the actor of sexually assaulting her in a restroom and flashing her on set. During a hearing in New York, Brand’s legal team sought to delay proceedings due to a conflict with his ongoing criminal case in the UK. However, the judge refused this request. Brand’s attorney, Mark Cuccaro, stated that Brand holds a “reasonable belief” that U.S. criminal prosecution could be possible given allegations of sexual misconduct similar to those he denies, both from this civil plaintiff and others through media reports.

Russell Brand’s Career

2011’s movie “Arthur” is a modern adaptation of the 1981 film bearing the same title, featuring Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli. In this version, Russell Brand plays the lead character, Arthur, who stands to lose his vast fortune if he doesn’t wed Jennifer Garner’s Susan. However, Arthur finds himself drawn to Naomi (Greta Gerwig), a bohemian woman whose personality starkly differs from Susan’s. The film humorously portrays Arthur’s internal struggle between keeping his wealth and pursuing true love, with Helen Mirren as the unorthodox guide in the form of his nanny, Hobson. Unfortunately, the movie was met with mostly unfavorable reviews and underperformed at the box office.

Initially, the individual embarked on a journey as a stand-up comedian and MTV VJ. He subsequently achieved recognition in the UK by hosting Big Brother’s Big Mouth. In time, he moved to cinema, gaining notoriety for performances in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Rock of Ages, and Arthur. He also lent his voice to animated movies like Despicable Me, its follow-up, and Minions: The Rise of Gru. Apart from acting, this individual has contributed to radio at BBC and hosted podcasts. He is widely recognized as an author for his memoir My Booky Wook, which narrates his life story, encompassing his childhood, early battles with drug addiction, and his career in comedy and television.
