Kajol claims she was NOT offered Sunny Deol’s Gadar; breaks silence on not using her last name: ‘Mujhe kisi ki tarafdari…’

Kajol has been connected with some of the most memorable productions in Bollywood. Despite her background in films and family ties, she opted not to use her surname to sidestep the weight of ancestry. Lately, the actress opened up about this choice in depth. Furthermore, she denied rumors that she was offered the role of Sakina in Sunny Deol’s Gadar, a part that ultimately went to Ameesha Patel.

At the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025, Kajol set the record straight, denying that she had ever been given the opportunity to play Sakina in the film “Gadar”. She made it clear that any reports suggesting otherwise were simply unfounded.

The actress openly acknowledged that numerous movie roles had been presented to her, yet for various motives, she chose to decline them all. Without mentioning any specific title, she disclosed that some of these films were eventually produced, with varying degrees of success or failure. However, she strongly emphasized the importance of not accepting credit for work that hasn’t actually been completed.

Beyond what was mentioned earlier, she likewise discussed her choice to forgo using her surname. She explained that she made this decision to free herself from the weight of her family’s historical influence.

In her early career days, the actress known for “My Name Is Khan” revealed that both her mother, iconic actress Tanuja, and her grandparents had highlighted her remarkable ancestry on both her grandmother’s and grandfather’s sides.

Kajol justified her choice by explaining, “At that time, and still today, it seemed to me that I shouldn’t align myself with anyone.

She expressed that she wished to remain true to herself and avoid the weight of ancestry. She reasoned that if she were only recognized by the name Kajol, perhaps there would be less pressure upon her.

To those who may not know, I’d like to share a bit about my beloved star, Kajol. She’s none other than the cherished daughter of the legendary actress Tanuja and the esteemed film director Shomu Mukherjee.

In her professional career, you’ll see her in the movie “Maa,” which is being helmed by Vishal Furia. This movie is set to hit theaters on June 27, 2025.
