Zahan Kapoor, cousin to Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor, gained recognition through Vikramaditya Motwane’s web series titled “Black Warrant” this year. Interestingly, despite his family background in films, he confessed feeling apprehensive due to the weight of his ancestors’ legacy as he ventured into the entertainment industry.
In conversation with PTI, Zahan Kapoor shared that he put in considerable effort, along with a speech coach, to master the accent of a typical middle-class Delhi family for Black Warrant. Although being from a film background, his parents, Kunal Kapoor and Sheena Sippy, emphasized the importance of hard work and self-reliance, ensuring he wouldn’t rely on others for success.
The performer from “The Black Warrant” noted that the sense of apprehension was heightened due to his ancestry. He emphasized that, though he knew the course, the decision to embark on it was entirely his own. He revealed that his parents had informed him that the journey would require diligence, so he would need to find his own way through it.
He admitted that he never thought he knew everything about this field. In fact, it initially scared him due to its complexity. However, he has consistently strived to learn more and considers this a continuous process. He also discovered various risks involved and emphasized the importance of trusting himself more than others. To cope with these challenges, he plans to make efforts, practice regularly, and prepare himself as much as possible.
Kapoor emphasized the effort he’s put in throughout the years, stating that this wasn’t something he felt was inherent to him due to his background or genetic makeup.
Intriguingly, during our chat, Zahan shared something fascinating – he didn’t know Hindi as a child. It wasn’t until he was around 18 or 19 years old that he ventured into theater and discovered his passion for acting. He emphasized that language is a crucial tool for an actor, and given his love for literature and poetry, it holds great significance for him.
He shared that he often engages in reading, often in the Devanagari script, which fuels his creativity, and he likened this habit to a form of continuous training for himself.
Earlier this year, in January, I had the privilege of following Zahan Kapoor as he brought the character of former Tihar jailer Sunil Gupta to life on screen through his captivating portrayal in Black Warrant.
