The Netflix adaptation of Devil May Cry, based on Capcom’s popular video game franchise, offered an engaging twist. Characters like Dante seemed true to the games, yet the narrative took a distinct turn, leading to varying opinions among fans. Still, they appreciated the nods to other Capcom titles, sparking speculation about a potential shared Capcom Anime Universe.

Initially, the nods to other Capcom content are quite subtle. For instance, Dante playfully hurls someone towards a Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet, adding a charming touch. Later on, a character sports a Mega Man toy on their vehicle, serving as an acceptable homage to the Blue Bomber.

The situation changes when they bring up bio-organic weapons, implying that Resident Evil has occurred or is ongoing. It appears that one reference wasn’t sufficient, as Enzo, Dante’s friend, also refers to a “Raccoon City job,” confirming the existence of this well-known city in the universe.

Despite no zombie outbreaks or Leon-like characters emerging, the Devil May Cry anime’s use of Resident Evil references was nonetheless startling. Naturally, fans find themselves eager to learn what will happen next and if there will be more Capcom-related anime in the future. The idea of a shared Capcom anime universe is intriguing indeed, considering the diverse nature of their games.

Given the anime’s influence, Resident Evil is a strong contender for Capcom’s next series. Since the live-action movies have struggled with accurately portraying their source material, an animated adaptation could potentially address these issues. If by some chance Dante makes an appearance in the series, it would be fantastic.

Instead of saying “Street Fighter appeared in an arcade machine,” you could say “These games are modeled after these popular tournaments that feature beloved characters from Street Fighter.” As for the animated series, it might not happen given the live-action movie in development, but it would be exciting to see them animated.

Or maybe I just want to see Cammy in animated form, who knows?

Introducing Darkstalkers into Netflix’s ongoing Devil May Cry series could significantly enhance the current plotline. Given that demons have been acknowledged within this universe, characters such as Morrigan and Jon Talbain would fit right in. It would be thrilling to witness these characters make an appearance in a high-profile anime, especially if it results in some spectacular battles.

As a passionate fan, I’ve been pondering about the idea of a Capcom animated universe, but considering how other properties have grappled with creating cohesive media interconnections, I can’t help but feel a bit apprehensive. Even Marvel, pioneers in this field, have faced challenges to preserve their narrative momentum post-Endgame. Nonetheless, the tantalizing Resident Evil references left me craving for more, and it wouldn’t be unwelcome to see an increased interest in games like Devil May Cry.
